I see some scopes marketed towards specific firearms..... such as Rifle, Muzzleloader, Shotgun, Airgun, and Crossbow. I understand the differences in some aspects, but what makes a Rifle Scope different from a shotgun scope?
In my experience shotgun scopes have low magnification, a simple, quick to acquire reticle and longer eye relief. Typically 5 to 6" as opposed to 3 to 4 for a rifle scope.
I put a 2X shotgun scope on a Ruger 10/22 I had one time. I had to mount the rail in an unorthodox way to achieve the proper eye relief but once I did the combination of long eye relief and low magnification made it one of the most enjoyable rifles to shoot I have ever owned.
