Shotgun setups...

Hate to be contrarian, but I do not honestly think I have even seen a 3gun shotgun at a match that only had a bead, except beginners. Much less in the top ten.
At least as my memory serves.
I only run a bead. On a 1301 Comp that I’ve been shooting for years in 3-gun. And I have zero problem with slug hits at ~100yds

I tried a dot and rifle style sights before. They just seemed unnatural to me on a shotgun.

It wouldn’t surprise me if people that started shooting shotguns with beads long before 3gun are more likely to retain them.

I’ve made hits with a bead too, but they sure felt easier with sights. Not the greatest shotgunner, as I only really started shootijg them for 3gun. But Woodys used to have entire slug stages, And I found the sights useful.

To each their own!

I agree with Frack (Bead is best). I've yet to see a top 3 gun finisher use anything but a bead (maybe a red dot).
Let me say this, the top shooters will use every advantage they can so that means if they are running a tricked out open shotgun they will put a dot on it because the style & modifications would place them in that division anyway. That same top level shooter would be as good with a bead. Their choices are usually driven by the equipment rule sets and will use everything allowable for that chosen division, and choosing not to run a dot may keep them in Tac ops

For matches I use a bead on one shotgun and a Holosun on another. I shoot a Holosun on my handgun and I think it makes me pick up the reticle quicker using the same type circle dot on different guns

Yup…grew up shooting rabbits on the run without even a bead for a sight.

I’m not looking at the sighs shooting clays or knock down steel, sights are only for slugs which kept getting smaller and father. I was a wing and clay shooter long before I even heard of a 3 gun match and did a fair amount of work to my Beretta to get it to shoot where I was looking.
