Hypothetical here...

If one was to be traveling (driving) to NH/ME and was traveling through restricted states like NY, MA and MD. Would a shotgun be restricted? I've looked in the laws and the only caveat would be to have it inaccessible.

Thoughts?

Review this: https://www.nraila.org/articles/20150101/guide-to-the-interstate-transportation

State laws especially in NJ, NY, MD, MA and CT can be onerous and complicated so you should not plan on spending the night in any of these states - just keep driving through these $hithole states.

Since I moved from CT i can tell you that they classify the following shotgun as an assault weapon:

A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
  1. A folding or telescoping stock; and
  2. Any grip of the weapon, including a pistol grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other stock, the use of which would allow an individual to grip the weapon, resulting in any finger on the trigger hand in addition to the trigger finger being directly below any portion of the action of the weapon when firing
  3. A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine
  4. A shotgun with a revolving cylinder

As long as you're driving through, and don't stop (to give them cause)
and
its locked, unreachable, separated from ammo, and well hidden you should be good.

None of the above. Thanks!

Define what you mean by "ok". As in if they somehow discover it will you be in for a world of unpleasant stuff, no it won't be ok. In the manner of your complying with federal regulations that are supposed to super cede theirs, yes it should be "ok".

As in don't give them any cause to stop,or search you and you don't stop anywhere you'll probably be "ok" and might even have legal standing to get any search that would discover your gun thrown out.
