Hey y'all. Bear with me, as I'm an electronics nerd and can't cut a straight line in a 2x4. I am stubborn though.

Ive just removed some rotten Masonite siding from the house and and underneath I've revealed what first appeared to be rotten plywood. Further research leads me to believe it is not rot and is supposed to be this color. Can some of you gurus help me understand what I'm looking at?

Yes, I'm beginning to think it is black fiber board or the bear hide stuff. That's good.

I started to see black wood and my heart sank a little.

There is one bad section of fiber board maybe 8'x2' that I'll replace but this looks to be a days worth of work to finish up. Thank you.

nasty stuff black board. I toted and cut a many of sqft of that mess before I got out of high school. That's why I sit on my fat but estimating now. We still use it every now and then in the roofing industry.
