The outgoing Chancellor approved the removal and off campus storage of the oedestal during the night.

Gov. Cooper, a UNC aluminess said
“I appreciate the Chancellor’s actions to keep students and the public safe,” Cooper said in a statement. “North Carolina is welcoming to all, and our public university should reflect that.”

All of the sudden they are concerned about public safety, the statue in WS has been there since 1905.

When will they start purging our libraries of books that are deemed a public safety threat?

The book burnings will happen sooner or later.
Just look up the list of books already banned from public schools.

It is the new standard response, to say that something (typically a civil war monument) was removed or must be removed in the name of public safety. Winston Salem just caved.

I am always reminded of the I Mudd episode in the original Star Trek:

NORMAN: We cannot allow any race as greedy and corruptible as yours to have free run of the galaxy.
SPOCK: I'm curious, Norman. Just how do you intend to stop them?
NORMAN: We shall serve them. Their kind will be eager to accept our service. Soon they will become completely dependent upon us.
ALICE 99: Their aggressive and acquisitive instincts will be under our control.
NORMAN: We shall take care of them.
SPOCK: Eminently practical.
KIRK: The whole galaxy controlled by your kind?
NORMAN: Yes, Captain. And we shall serve them and you will be happy, and controlled.

Would that the Gov. could just remain silent. But that ain't gonna happen!

Where has America gone?

Where men are now as fearful as little girls and women wish to be men because they no longer exist.

The men of old wonder why they even bothered because all they accomplished is now unrecognizable.

Where evil runs free and the free no longer have the will to remain so.

And, honestly, people didnt know about it until an OpEd piece during all this nonsense about a year or so ago.
It was in plain view for over a century and most, myself included, never noticed it.

Speaking of, a friend told me today that a parent contacted because they were offended and didnt find appropriate a book about human traffiking. Yeah, let's not talk about it, sweep it under the rug, dont educate.

And I'm reminded of, as far as I'm concerned, the best part of the movie Interstellar...
Skip to 1:30 if you're impatient...

Sickened to my stomach with the discriminating governance of Cooper and the cowardice manner in how this was executed. Considering this thread is in the Off Topic section I will refrain from going further except to state that if that is an example of state or university leadership I've misunderstood the definition of it for over 60 years.

And...What about the previous leadership at the College and the State? All of these statues have been erected for a reason, and it wasn't a bunch of "Nazi" white supremacists who had the statues erected to begin with. Its pretty damn bad when all these people think they are better than several hundred years of history. I don't have a dog in the Silent Sam fight, per se. But the premise of all of this history destroying is crap. Just because you have your idea of how things should be, doesn't mean its right.

These damn squeaky wheels getting all the grease....time for a new bicycle, I think.

I took over my Grandfathers farm when he passed. There was all kinds of stuff done there, that I had no idea why. For example.... There was a 40 foot section of fence that ran out through the middle of a field. And abruptly stopped. could not figure out why. So, being the smart guy, I tore it down so I could cut the corner of the fence quicker. Well, after about a year, and the cows walking in a straight direction up and down the path, where that "random" fence was....it started to wash the field away. And I said..."Ahhhhhhhh" I see now. So back up it went.

Moral of that story is, we as persons aren't smarter than history in its entirety. And things of worth are placed for a reason that aren't perceptible to us immediately.

And damn I felt dumb for doubting my Grandfather, who was a brilliant man, after his death.

Lesson learned.
