Skeet shooting tomorrow....

I usually go almost every weekend on which ever day the weather will be "best" so if anyone would care to join. I'll help with a little instruction (if requested) and do have guns I can loan..... very fun sport....

i will probably take you up on your offer in the future (including the instruction offer). I have a Mossberg 590a1 however I am not sure if that is appropriate for skeet. My wife is also interested in joining the skeet sport.

Any gun can be used but it's better if you have an open choke. Improved cylinder or skeet are best as it allows the pattern to begin opening up at the normal ranges the birds are shot at. Any gauge can be used also but the smaller the gauge the smaller the pattern size. Shot sizes can be anything 7.5 or less. (8 or 9)
At my club barrel length must be 18 or above and no pistol gripped guns are allowed. Like I said before, if you don't have something suitable I have loaner guns in 12, 20, 28 or .410 if we need them.
Holler when you can go.....

I need to bring me daughter down there. She shoots trap on her schools shooting team as well as her 4H shooting team. She needs to find some consistency. She'll shoot really well for a while, then shoot really bad for a while.... For no apparent reason.

How old is she?? What other interest does she have?? She may really want to be doing something else. I have a friend and he wanted his daughter to shoot sooooo bad, and she wanted to please Daddy sooooo bad that she was doing her best most of the time but really wanted to be doing something else. Once he figured that out and took the pressure off her to perform she not only got a little better (shooting less) but she was having more fun. Analyze your situation carefully and honestly...
Holler back if I can help....

She's 13. Enjoys shooting everything in general like her dad. She shoots small bore rifle, archery and trap. No one else on the team comes close to her rifle scores and that includes high school boys. (She's in 8th grade-middle school). She usually has one of the highest scores in archery and is near the top in trap. She just seems inconsistent in trap. I don't think she's doing it just to make dad happy. She seems to genuinely enjoy shooting.

There's 2 parts to everything you have mentioned, mental and mechanical. One without the other won't cut the mustard. I have days when I have one or the other but not enough of either to overcome the deficiency. If it seems to be just in her trap scores then she may not enjoy that as much as the other sports.
Talking with her about the sport may uncover something. Personally I don't care for more than a round or two of trap before I become bored and make a slip which then only frustrates me more. I began my shooting career with trap and shot that exclusively for many years until I admitted to myself that I didn't enjoy it as much as I used to. Switched to skeet and sporting clays and began to have much more fun. I'm sure one day I may grow tired and switch back, who knows......
What gauge is she shooting at trap?? Is her physical size enough to shoot a full sized gun or is she shooting cut down stocks? I'd be happy to either watch her or even shoot a round with her and see what the issue may be...... just holler.....

Thank you for the continuing offer Bailey Boat !!!

I'd like to shoot with you again, and maybe continue my practice with an excellent firearm like a Remington 11-87 ;) if you don't mind putting up with me for a while. I'm about 30min. from RCWA so it'd be easy to meet up, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Almost forgot, new screen name here. Previously known as burn 'em, usually just go by Jonathan.

Don't let his grouchy net persona fool you. He's great with kids. He could be talking about my daughter in his post above, and might be. She likes shooting and I wanted her to try skeet. She will ride an hour and a half down to Rowan to shoot with Bill if I ask her too. And she does not like shooting skeet, she prefers sporting clays. But she likes shooting with BB. She was ready to drive to the sporting clays get together until it got so cold. She hates cold.

And your daughter sounds like mine. She was second best archery shooter on her HS hunter safety team last year. Might be the best one this year, we will see. Was tied in 8th place individual at state 4H shoot this summer in sporter compound. Just missed the trap team for hunter safety. And now that they allow scoped .22 rifles we are going to give rifle a go again.

She enjoys it but gets bored after a couple of rounds. I don't force her to push through. We just move on to rifle or archery at that point. We've shoot sporting clays once and we both enjoyed that. I'm hoping to take her again soon.

She's shooting a full size Mossberg 500 12 gauge. When she started out, she was using a borrowed 20g because all I had were 12s. I let her try out my benelli m1s90 at practice one day and she liked it and shot well with it. Since then, she's tried a couple of other 12s, one of which was my beat to hell moss 500. She preferred it, for whatever reason and has been shooting it ever since. I'm sure the gun is slightly on the large size for her, but youth guns are way too small. Plus she seems to prefer the 12g. I'm not opposed to fitting the old moss 12 with a smaller stock if it would help.

What county? My daughter's trap and archery teams went to state in 4H. She got 6th in state in rifle as an individual.

She shot for Caldwell because they are closer to us and Burke does not have a shooting team. She shoots for East Burke High School too. It was Caldwell's first year and one of the kids won sporter class outright with a 200, 2nd in recurve, and Lauren was tied for 8th in shorter compound. They did well. She shot a 195. The kid that shot recurve made nationals and I think the guy that won sporter did too. Lauren was going to try out, but she needs to grow a bit to pull off 66 yards with her bow. Seeing what her 40 yard pin is, I'm not sure her bow will get there.

This was my daughter's 1st year with 4H and the team's 2nd year. She will still be shooting as a junior again this coming year.

That's awesome! We're in Iredell county.

Hey, if she is into archery look into the new S3DA program. Sportsman's Hangout has been hosting Vegas shoots and Lake Norman Archery is working on 3D shoots over the summer. They teamed up with NW circuit for 3D. Let me know if you want more info.

We stepped out of 4H over the winter but the coach just called to tell me they will have a full shooting team this year, not just archery. Might get back into it if Lauren wants too.

Archery is probably her favorite thing. One of our coaches works at SH. They help out with equipment and such also. Plus it's 10 minutes from my house. Shoot me that info if you don't mind. That would definitely be worth looking into.

You talkin to me? Lol

You or anyone really.

It's a mute question though, I just found out that I'll be spending yet another weekend working. This is beyond old.

There's a couple of places in harmony. One, I think is called quail hollow or something like that. They have skeet. Another place is north of harmony that has a pretty cool sporting clays course. I'm gonna try to get a group together, maybe mid to late January.

I was referring to sporting clays. Hunting Creek Preserves.

Still planning on RCWA today at noon if anyone is brave enough.....

Derp! I wish I knew sooner. My wife made plans to join some others to shoot on their property today. Would love to get up with some other CFF members at RCWA. I haven't been there yet.
