Want to have my patio door replaced. The existing door is builder grade garbage and leaks air like a sieve. I'd like to get a new one installed. Is there a vinyl/acrylic/aluminum type door in existence that doesn't have a threshold I have to step over? I want the flat nearly flush with the floor type that's there now.

I don't want to step over a frame like this one would make you do...

Youll want one where both open. French doors. Mild to wild on pricing. Nice ones are around grand.

My existing door has a track, but it's mostly flat. The replacement doors I've seen have a channel to step over. I don't want that. It makes you trip because it's 2 inches or so high instead of the half inch I have now.

I sell Simonton Vinyl Sliding Glass Doors As well as Anderson. Depending on how your house/floor is built you are going to have a lip. Most of the time a good installer van install a transition that will make it less likely to trip. the fact that you realize there are builder grade crap doors gives you a step on most buyers trying to go cheap. If I can offer any advice, shoot me a pm

You must have a heluva time with curbs and stairs. šŸ˜
Well I was shopping for a wheelchair three years ago. My medical condition is under control now, but it could flare up and then yes, stairs and curbs are problematic for me.

Have an installer? I know @foopid stucker at least used to do that stuff, as he was going to help my mom out and she has yet to make a decision several years later.

Do you install as well?

I prefer French Doors. Sliders are less secure and can only open so wide. But you pay for quality and features. And it is probably easier to build a flush fit floor without a slider track. Good luck.

The one you posted in the original post is probably sitting on a concrete slab and has a vinyl floor. It appears that your door is sitting on the floor and then you have real hardwood that makes the lip look less than it is. A good carpenter and a good door will get you what you need with sliding or French doors.

Good Luck
