I still have a flip phone as my personal phone. Unfortunately I have to have a smartphone for work.

Also, this has happened a few times before, and been reported. Some folks get lucky. Would it 'work' every time? No, doubtful. But, it's still a pretty cool story when it does

Could have been a 22, 25, or 32. Could have had heavy clothing on either or both sides. Could have been from a very short barrel at lower velocity.

I didn’t think it was 9 or 45.

Why do a test when I know the outcome beforehand?? I'm obviously smarter than that, and you....
Youre full of crap.

Go on and threaten some folks and their pets, or tell people more how to live their lives so high up on your pedestal.

If I was you I would shoot yours and post pics to prove him wrong.

Dude, you seem to have some deep rooted interpersonal issues, have you considered professional help??

So this thread got me interested in if a cell phone would stop a bullet. My biggest issue was I really didn't care to test it on my phone. My problem was solved while out biking I ran across a LG cell phone. I saw only one issue that could skew my test results, the battery was missing. to compensate for this I took an empty can that artichokes come in, flattened it, bent it over on itself and taped it to the back of the phone. this is not a weak can such as you find Cola in but closer to what baked beans come in.
The story says it was shot with a .45 which I do not own so I used a Sig P239 in .40. ammo was TulAmmo 180 GR. FMJ.
I took 2 shots at the phone with one hitting near the side and the other closer to the center. Both shots had zero issues going through the phone plus the metal can behind and kept right on going. Would it have made a difference if I used a hollow point or put jeans in front of it? maybe, but I seriously doubt it. not sure how the bullet in the story was stopped by the phone but something doesn't add up and I call BS. Maybe it was a ricochet ?

I don’t think the story says what caliber it was anywhere that I could find. Should have been 32 or 22 or something else anemic.

I was just taking a potshot in the 9 vs 45 debate when I posted about the 45 being slow and fat.

40 is the most likely of the 3 to penetrate cover I would say since it has more mass than 9 but still high velocity.

But shooting an old phone sounds fun anyway.

I guess I read the 9 vs 45 thing and thought it was a 45. I would bet the farm a 9 would have same results and the hole in the picture doesn’t look like a .22 hole but maybe a 32. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I do not own a 32 but I do have a 22 and still have the phone. I might just have an update soon.
And it was kinda fun!

Update. Shot phone with 22 & 9mm. Results speak for themselves. This story is BS!
