For my wife's youngest sister, Summer. Who I would do anything for. Ash and I can't have kids with out help that cost a good junk of money but that's a different topic. Ashley's mom has been the sole provider since her Dad's stoke last year that has left him semi handicap (mentally). Summer, who is 15 this year has been using my wife saxophone that my wife used in middle through high school (99-05). It finally crapped the bed and she needed a new one. But one that would last her through college.

There was a music event for students in Cary this past week. were they sold instruments at a discount. Her mom I know didn't have the money or the credit for a loan with out getting raped on the interest. Her mom started crying because she knew she couldn't get it but was trying none the less. I had some money for a rainy day, put some down and financed the rest at 0% for 18 months. Summer wants to be a music teacher and has learned to play my trumpet for middle/high school. I told her she better get a scholarship for school with her talent. I've been on a strong path to get rid of all debt (other than house). I'm so close, to accomplished this but felt like I took 10 steps back. However it's for a great cause. This is what I kept telling my self anyway but kept looking at it as tacking on 18 months min to what I had left.

Summer had her concert to night and I didn't plan on going originally because of work.. Boy am I glad I did. She had a solo and absolutely killed it. To hear her play, just moved me in a way I've honestly never experienced. I kinda broke down in the truck. Maybe it's because we want kids so bad, maybe it's because I want to see Summer succeed er full potential to so bad. Whatever the case maybe this smile is worth it all. I love her like my own and would do anything for her that I could do.

You saw an honest need of an honest kid, you knew you had the ability to satisfy that need and took the deed to heart. The smile says she won't ever forget and will be forever grateful for your gift. You did very well..... Oh, God noticed also....

Bring a little humor in to this, I hope God didn't notice my first 20 years of life..haha.

"Unka Dad" ! Kinda so far from any money or debt. Neither one can buy THAT kinda love. You can do 18 months standin on yer head underwater for that child. No biggie.
You are absolutely right. It didn't come full circle until her concert. My wife jokingly said that ever since I turn 30 this year I've soften up.
My mother in law wants to pay me back, which is not worth fighting with. What money she does give me I'll put in a separate account for her graduation for college. She only has 2 years left and Summer is not coming out of college with a huge debt over her head. I hope she becomes a composer or something that has the ability to make a comfortable living. Then if she wants to be a music teacher she has the degree to do that already.

Thank you guys.

Yeah, that's one of those " investments" that you won't see all of the benefits of:

Her being happy, the practice she will get from having that instrument, potential exposure for scholarship, potential exposure for a job...

Good deal.

Shoulda got her an Otamatone.

That's what my youngest daughter wanted for her 16th birthday this year.

For Christmas, though, she wants a ukulele...

Seriously, this is what good family is all about. Good on you and yours.

Awesome job man. That's a gift that will keep giving smiles for years to come, for more than just her.

How much you own on that sax? I would love to send a little to cover a bite of it.

Booger you really don't have to do that. Sax was 2,650. I put $500 down. Balance is $2,150.

Man, I thought the same thing, but didn't post it. I'd kick in some myself.

No, no no,. He should have gotten her .... A drum set :D

Maybe for sheer noise...but for sheer annoyance, it would be hard to beat an Otamatone.

You've GOT to look up Otamatone covers on youtube.

Holy cow saxophones are expensive! Good grief.

Yeah, ummmm about that....
I found a Selmer MK VI tenor that was absolutely flawless for $11,500.00.
Sadly, I am not of the wealthy kind....

Anyway, @Djstorm100 sending a little to help.
Good on you for stepping up. I’ve been a musician for WAAYYYY longer than I’ve been a tower hand, and a good quality step-up Horn makes a HUGE difference in how students play and respond.
