British Snider Mk III .577 cartridge rifle. Enfield lock dated 1871, barrel marked on bottom with 11/70 dated (Martini Henry Mk I introduced 1871). Blueing still present on bottom of barrel under stock. Breech mechanism I'm still working on repairing as breech locking plug is stuck inside breech block. Lots of proofs all over rifle, excellent bore, sights still adjust, extractor works on breech. Stock has proofs in barrel channel and cartouche on stock still visible. Toe on buttstock has been repaired at some point. Not bad shape for a 147 year old carbine for sale in Afghanistan. Service member looking at bringing this home.

If I can unfreeze the locking mechanism on the breech it would be shootable too. Use 24 ga brass cases and .58 cal Miniballs under some FF powder.

Darn good find. They shoot pretty good if using the right size minie. Best accuracy, slug the bore, size cast minie to .001 under bore. Use starting charge about 50% of service charge to start. Lube is also very important. Once you find that magic combo, I'd bet it can shoot better than you can hold it.
