"One to Two inches"
That was the prediction on thursday.
I'm looking at an easy 10 inches out my window and supposed to be another couple inches before tomorrow.

The weather men are scrambling to explain themselves...."but but the computer models showed the southern moisture not coming this far north but it did and hit the cold front and and.."

They super duper dropped the ball on this one. My question; just what did you do before computers..be a meteorologist maybe?
Ain't nobody going nowhere..at least where I live.

Yup, here in Etowah I've got 10+.

Like an idiot, I believed the 1-3" and didn't bother filling the gas cans. Power is out now, so I'm waiting it out before turning on the generator.

I almost drove up to West Jeff last night with my 4 door sedan. Thought better of that as the day went on. Sounds like there is a little less in W. Jeff than what you guys got but my ride wouldn't have made it up the road, and I would have been hauling my bags through the snow. Good luck up there. Stay warm.

We all did. Not an uncommon thing to happen this time of year but it's a little early for anything like what we got.
I just got lucky with having enough milk and bread  and I have gas for the genny. So far my power is still on. But I'm sure most folks were caught completely off guard.

It was already snowing when I got up, yesterday. So I figured it would be wise to get the tractor ready. Filled the tank and tires, then mounted the scrape blade on the back and the snow-plow on the front. Time for a cup of coffee before I go plow all my neighbors driveways.

Here in the Triangle we have a dusting-to-1.5". This is very, VERY early to have snow here. My kids hope it is prophetic for a snowy winter. My wife, from Buffalo, hopes to never see a snowflake again.

To your point about the weather-guessers, in 2000 they predicted about 4" during one event. We got almost 24". It happens. God throws curve balls and no amount of PhDs or computers will account for it.

WRAL in Raleigh weather report has gotten so bad and so inaccurate, we get two other "opinions" before making any decisions based on weather. Right now they are 10 degrees apart from the Weather Channel as to what the high will be Monday. Glad we didn't get dumped on. I still fondly remember the 24" snow fall we had and I still have nightmares about the ice storm we had where it took me 4 hrs to drive 20 miles.

The ice storm in the late 80’s? That one was a bear. I was 16, the roads in our neighborhood were like an ice hockey rink.

That little yellow dot on the table is a 12” ruler at about midnight. We’re at 11.5” so far.

I have trees down and no power. But the roads are actually pretty good so I was able to get gas for the generator.

Kids are having fun!

I too am from Buffalo and though the snow is pretty I could do without.

I had nearly 11+ inches outside of my house. I had a sneaking suspicion that WLOS was going to miss call it bad Thursday night.

I hadta whip out these things

Yeah they keep your feet warm but they're heavy as bricks and almost as flexible.

Don't know how I'm getting to work. Might hafta stay home and play with guns!

Man, that's bad, I agree you better stay home..... I'll write you a note....

Dear Friday's Boss,
Friday can't come into work today because his truck is buried under several millimeters of snow. If he were to attempt to clear said snow from his vehicle it could, and has, resulted in severe injuries in the past. In an attempt to safe guard Friday's health and well being and make certain that he is fully fit for work on Monday he will be staying home today.
He appreciates your understanding.......

A couple inches of snow and cable/internet was out for 6 hours.

Still no power...that I can live with. But no water is gonna kill me. I have a house full of smelly boys.

What part of the state?

What part of the state?
Closest real town to me is Hendersonville. I live on Worlds Edge, it drops straight down 2000' to Lake Lure right behind my house.
We get some kooky weather because of the elevation clash. This time I got pretty much what everyone else did but usually I get ice too so thank goodness for none of that non-sense.

Some ex-Yankee friends live in H'ville. Looks like a really nice place. Stay safe

Used to live off old hwy 64 behind the Ingles.

If it is or becomes a real issue I have a generator you can borrow

Thanks! But, I’ve got my generator going. Able to power freezer, fridge, internet router and a few lights.

No water is a far bigger issue than power.

after the UNC-Kentucky basketball game, i left the Dean Dome in a snow storm on
December 2nd (2006?). that's the earliest i remember an accumulation of snow in CH.

Tim, if you are on a well do like I did. My well was originally wired directly to the house. I cut the power lines, mounted a 220 volt receptacle in a weather proof box and then installed a 22o volt plug on the part coming up from the well and plugged it in. When I loose power, I unplug the well and plug it into my generator. I fill up the bathtubs to be able to have water to flush the toilets and fill up pitchers for drinking. I also converted a 100' 12/3 extension cord with the same 220 volt plug and connector so I can attach the well to the generator when it is running at the house.
