Snowmageddon December 8th, 9th, 10th 2018

If it had wide mud tires... He might as well of rubbed grease on them. They don't work on packed snow/ice. Deep fresh snow , yes.
A thinner tire with lots of siping is the way to go on packed.

This. Most of these "Instagram famous, show trucks" on the road are all about the looks. Real world performance is not a priority. Tires are the most important performance part! Hard to beat a set of severe snow service all terrians.

We currently have transformers arcing out in front of our property. Power cutting off and coming back on. Putting on a light show for us.

Caldwell is.under mandatory curfew from 8 pm till 6am. Can't ever remember that happening before. Official snow total 14 inches. so far

52N was rough thru town, just wet U Pkwy on, people doing way less than the speed limit anyway.
Backroads got cleared right before I came thru, they were cutting the bent over trees as I passed.
Failed to get a guy out of the ditch on the way in, got one on the way home though.
Looks to be melting well.

Enjoying some Crown after 12 hours of throwing iron around and stitching trucks back together, be back at it tomorrow afternoon I imagine.

I've ran close to 30 fire calls today. Well its tomorrow already so yesterday and today.

I think this is the heaviest snow/sleet/slushy crap I've ever tried to shovel. Not worth a heart attack.............

Got that right. Everthing compacted down to 2-3" of slush. H E A V Y

My wife tells me to rest when mowing the lawn but tells me to hurry and get the snow shoveled. o_O

I usually don't use the tractor to do our small driveway. On the other hand it's stupid to have the tools to make it easy on me and not use them. Took the tooth bar off and moved 80% of the stuff. Then the plows came on dropped off 3Ft rolls of slush at the end of the driveway. A couple of bucket fulls were towards the lift limit. Lots of water!

I still needed to shovel the walkway.

My wife and i are leaving Waynesville this morning back to Anderson, SC.
Do any of y'all know how good the conditions are on I-40E and 26S?

Yeah I have 4wd and the wife won’t have to go to work for a few days so I’m going to let Mother Nature melt some of it before attempting to shovel it.

My neighbor, who is from Maine, is out shoveling his like a retarded lemur monkey. No thanks.

Took the Tacoma out yesterday. About 16-18” on the road (un-plowed roads). It was a mess and still is in some places. This is the wife’s Camry.

Here it is on my back deck. It has packed down with drizzle and very wet snow now.

Power has been out since 2:00AM. Pine tree fell across the line on the other side of the road. Got the generator cranked up and watching the news and the wood stove is providing heat. Took my parents a kerosene heater and ran a 110v cord over to them so they can plug their fridge and coffee maker into it. They are welcome to come over here but they want to tuff it out there. Power company says their working on it. Hopefully power will be back on before dark.

I had fun in my truck yesterday. Dragged this RAV4 into a tree, over a for sale sign and into some mailboxes before finally getting it on to the road. VERY slick conditions. Solid 18" snow.

There’s a good sign. We thanked them for being out in this mess trying to get the power back on.

How the heck are they planning on enforcing a county-wide curfew in slick conditions? Good luck with that, they better hope they have some snow tires and AWD on those county mountie cars.

Went to Mebane to pick the neighbors back up. It was a 2 stage operation. My Suburban wouldn't climb their driveway in 4 low. But the Mule would....

Got them to my house in the burban and then ferried them and their stuff to their place in the Mule. IMG_20181210_105929.jpg IMG_20181209_104822.jpg

This is a preliminary map produced by the NWS based on reported observations through early this morning. It does not include the light snow that fell across southwest and central NC earlier this morning.

Power was restored around 3:00pm. Before the crews left we went back down and thanked them again. It’s nice to know that even when the power goes out, we are not dependent on anyone to stay comfortable. Wood stove, kerosene heaters, generator, plenty of extension cords allowed us to stay here and keep things going.

But it’s also nice to know that it was only a temporary outage and they were working on it. Makes you wonder if you’re ever prepared enough. Could you imagine an EMP in these conditions?

We rode up thru Mt Pleasant into Gold Hill and back down 52 to Albemarle. It’s funny that we are in the same county because they got quite a bit of snow compared to us. I blame the heat island spreading from the West that I call Char-cago
