Chevy Bolt

200+ mile range. not a Tesla 3, but I don't like waiting. Surprisingly roomy for my fat butt and got it 5K under sticker not counting the tax rebate whatever that is next year.

Thing can get up and go too. stomp it and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. Perfect for taking me to work and back, and kids to activities. Doesn't roar when you stomp it like the old car but doesn't need $60 every two or so weeks to fill it either. Still have the big expedition for the family truckster.

All digital dash, and the phone takes over that 10" screen if you have a smart phone

pretty cool. can't wait to see what else GM comes up with.

Best part is the center console is super deep and roomy, perfect to mount a holster in pointed down. :D

I think Chevy Volt.

People don't realize that electric motors generate 100% of their torque instantly. No wind up required. The hybrid 4runners will spin tires even at hwy speed if you romp it. Nice buy bud.

Hmmm Id not seen the Bolt before - how large is this?
From the picture it makes me think of the Ford VMax or whatever their hybrid is called.
Like a mid-sized hatch, about the size of a Ford Focus etc

Congrats on the new ride dude.

So is there one big motor or one each for the drive wheels? I'd like a rwd version. With that kind of torque I'm thinking drift city.

I know it's progress but soon the sweet tone of gas v8s and the satisfaction of a real manual transmission will be only a memory. I'm so thankful I lived when I could enjoy both.

I LOVE manual transmissions...but there is a reason why the sportscar makers are going away from them.
Transmissions like Porsches PDK or other maker's paddle shifters are faster and offer, often times, automatic throttle blip on down-shifts for smoother changes.

Neat ride. If they put a charging station a work (like they have rumored) I will buy one.

It's not all about what's technically faster. A 747 is faster than a P-51 Mustang but I know which one I would rather fly.

It will be some time until an auto will give the control over power to the rear wheels that a manual clutch does, especially at an affordable price. Maybe never. Even so, the skill required and consummate enjoyment of matching the rpms yourself is taken away. It's like eventually saying the car can pick the better line through the corner, maybe so but then you are no longer driving are you?

Apologies to the OP for the hijack. I like the new ride and would love to test drive one.

I really like the looks. The weird thing is I don't like small cars or real big women, but somehow I always find myself in them.
As I've got older gas mileage means more to me than anything else.

Had a similar conversation this week. I have a very small car and I was saying how I need some pallets but they wont fit in my car. Some of my coworkers chuckled, one said something to the effect of the 'good thing about a truck...' etc.
How often do I need to transport three pallets? OR, how often am I driving close to 300 miles per week and would rather get 50mpg highway vs 20 of a pickup... (or less).

Exactly,, same reason I'll never own another 4wd. I see is as paying for things that really serve no purpose to me.

I'll likely own another truck, I need to tow my race bike. But I'll still have my/a gas sipping car too

I thought long and hard about buying a 2wd diesel ram as the prices were easily 10k less than the 4wd's, but a buddy with the same truck told me just how suprising the need for 4wd was on a 9k lb truck and I'm glad I listened. That sucker will bury itself on wet grass in 2wd.

4wd has more uses than most people think. You don't realize it until you need it. I sold my 2wd to buy a 4wd. Got tired of getting stuck on wet grass, not being able to get into drive way with .000001" of snow on the ground.

Wow ! You must have a really steep driveway ! ;)

Back when I was living near Atlanta I knew of driveways that WERE so steep that they were darned near impossible to negotiate with a 2WD with even the slightest slickness on them. My driveway was steep enough that I'd park on the street if snow was forecast. (with a 2WD pickup)

So I know where you are coming from.

Here in Eastern NC, I use my 4WD mostly when visiting the Outer Banks. That's the real reason I have it. Though it is a handy thing to have when it snows. :)

Yeah, I pay a little penalty in daily fuel mileage, but I have the 4WD option whenever I want / need it.

It all comes down to individual wants & needs.

Example: My wife doesn't want or need a 4WD. She has access to mine, and a chauffeur (me), whenever she wants or needs 4WD.

Might as well get at least a partial tax back from what you unwillingly and forcefully paid .gov

What is the battery life like and what so they cost to replace if needed?

Nice! Jealous! I’m waiting to see pricing on the Leaf when they offer the bigger battery.

I have a crazy neighbor who plays mad scientist. He’s put various engines into Miatas over the years ... a RX7 turbo charged rotary engine was about the wildest ride even more than an old 289 V8. Last year he drug up a Smart Car that someone had burned up the motor and swapped in some high current racing motor and battery system. That little car will lift the front wheels off the ground and carry them for at least 20 yards. That little thing will scare the crap out of you if you’re not expecting it!

ETA: if they run on gas or diesel it’s an engine ... on electricity it’s a motor ...

:D:D:D

Just kidding. Last week I watched Jeremy Clarkson driving an Audi R8 get his butt absolutely stomped drag racing a Tesla Crossover SUV.

I've gained a new respect of electric vehicles. As someone else posted, those electric motors produce instant peak torque and acceleration.

He'd prob still hand him his ass in the 1/8....high hp fwd' s typically spin through the top of third and do their real accelerating on the second half of the 1/4 mile. I honestly don't see why people put so much time/$$/effort into such a inefficient drag racing drive type.

That's the funny part, it's pretty much flat. It's the rain gutter that is the problem. Our street is on a hill but the drive way is level. When I try and back into the drive way, the truck just slides down the street.

What's it cost? Also, what's the cost in power consumption to charge it, and how long does that take?

Sticker was 42k and it had all options, got it for 37k. the feds will take 7500 off your taxes next year if you purchase it. I leased it as I get reimbursed for having a newer car for my job (car allowance) and it is better tax wise, well it was until this years changes, guess i'll find out if anything changed. The tax is a credit only, you don't get the money back if you don't pay that much in taxes.

I have a 240v/32A charger in the garage. An hour of time puts about 25 miles on the range. Max range is supposedly 230. You can charge on a household 110v forget about it, takes days to recharge anything. Think it was optomistic at 4m per hour on that.

There are a few chargers around town that are DC chargers that can do 90 miles of charge in an hour, but they need 480A circuits I think, so doubt i'd put one in a house. I've not done a long trip yet like out to Frontline Defense to see what happens, but they say 8-9 hours to recharge from dead. This is mostly to/from RTP or running the kids around to activities.

so far I've driven 371 miles at an estimated $13 in electricity.

Yeah I had an Audi A5 with a six speed, that was my last manual. The Camaro, Mustang, and Corvette are the only ones that still have manuals. Just about every euro car has dumped em for those fancy autos. I dislike them, shifting just makes you feel more connected and in tune. Having a fast car where all you do is push a pedal down is boring. rowing through gears is where it's at. PLus, no one can steal em.
