So, Whatchu Been Up To Today?

It's not 0300 yet.
Sitting here with my fingers crossed hoping the fuse I replaced in a hydraulic pack will remain viable till the end of my shift. Lost 45 minutes of production....Not too bad really.

Sitting here having coffee, bout to microwave some bacon (don't knock it til ya try it), and scramble a couple eggs. Got some sort of chest congestion going on. Started antibiotics last night. Let's hope they help. I'll probably sit here in my boxers until I think of a good reason to get up

Microwave bacon is the only way I fix it unless I just need the grease for a recipe or something.
Can't stand the mess it makes cooking on the stove and I've got mine down perfectly.
For my microwave, it's a few newspaper, paper towel, bacon (3-4 slices), paper towel and cook for 4.5min.
All done & crispy when it comes out and I can cook my egg and have everything else ready for fixing by the time it's done
i.e. Bacon & egg sammich. :)

Went to ENC firing range this morning with a friend and spent probably 2.5-3hr shooting pistols (paper then steel).
Came home & did some grilling/cooking for the rest of the week.

Just chillin' now and gonna get stuff ready for the workday tomorrow.

Y'all have a good evening & stay safe.

Microwave is the only way to go with bacon. It really minimizes the mess and cooks it fine!

Wish I was at ENC today... instead i spent 10 hours in a windowless box.

Yay.

This is what I use. It hangs outta the grease, and the tray collects the grease. No more laying it on paper towels. I drape a paper towel over it to keep splatter to a minimum. And it you don't mind the bacon being folded in half, you can sometimes cook an entire package on those three racks in about 10 minutes. That way I can dump the grease into a pot to make gravy in after the bacon is cooked :D

So, I'm up at 4am, showered and getting ready for work.

Need to go in early to fix plan sheets, something I shouldn't be doing, so we can go to Kernersville tomorrow and do field work.
The company we are working with, provided plan sheets, but they are rotated somewhere from 20-45deg off of North.
Long story.
Started using something called Project Wise from Bentley and it's being a PITA.

Can't wait till I can be done with this thing called engineering work.

Well I'm up for no good reason at all, what a crap way to start the day. Catching a flight in a few hours. A few of these posts have me thinking that I need some bacon and eggs to properly balance my lack of sleep.

Today? Well today, and a whole buncha yesterdays and a whole buncha tomorrows, I'll be putting in 12 hour days.

That's what happens when people don't plan big jobs out properly and front-load the majority of the work early in the availability and suddenly people discover we're coming down to the wire and the schedule is going to slip to the right a few weeks.

All of the sudden, the overtime spigot opens wide and it's full-on crisis management time!

More dollars for Daddy!

(And yes...for DADDY. All OT belongs to me, to do with as I see fit. Typically, though, Daddy picks a bill and demolishes it.)

At least you get paid for OT.
I'm salary, so anything over my 32hr, I get nothing except "comp time" to take off on another date.
I'll be at work at 6am today vs 6:45-7am, but I am leaving at 3pm...

Comp time is nice, too. Doesn't pay the bills down as quickly, but still nice to be able to rack up time which can be used for vacations and such.

Got tired of just putting stage lights wherever they fit in the trailer, so I built a rack for them.

Yes, comp time is nice, but I can't use it like that...If I have 8hr over in a week, I can't just take 4hr or 8hr off.
can only use an hour or 2 here & there.

Just pay me.

Today?
I'm tired and my hips are a bit sore from the positional shooting I did yesterday.
Just trying to get moving and I've been up since 6:30am.
Finally got a shower & regular clothes on and trying to figure out what to cook today.

Thinking bout some venison burgers, spaghetti, and maybe a Kung Pao Chicken...
Not sure about all that though.

I think it's gonna be a lazy day for me today - maybe watch some bb or a movie.
Tomorrow since I'm off, think I'll go up to Frontline Defense and shoot a little bit.

Y'all have a good day, stay safe.

Not much today...just cleaning some brass, tweaking reloads for OAL, cleaning a suppressor that was WAY overdue.

Yesterday, tho...took a pistol class, with about 400 rounds downrange in ~5 hours, then cleaned out my office Saturday evening.

My last day off.

Didn't do very much today.
Thought about going up to FLD to shoot some long range today, but just didn't feel like driving today.

So, it was a chill day.

Got the house cleaned up, clothes washed/put away.
I also worked on my itsy-bitsy long leaf pine needle basket....
If my stitches weren't so tight & me being stressed out, my basket would be just a bit larger...
But, it was my first time and I hope to do better next time. :)

A few pictures of the mini basket. :D

So, mine is on the left, with the super stressed out stitches.....

I guess no too bad of a start, considering the complete basket made by the instructor has some tight stitching..

And, today...getting the walls started

And, I'm done...about 3 rows up and I need more sinew and don't feel like getting more for thread...

Been under the flu since Friday... Finally starting to come to my senses.
Ruined my whole weekend and the first 2 days of the work week.
The stuff tore me up.

Hope you're feeling better.

Just working and working for the weekend.
Really don't feel much like doing this drainage design stuff today.

I just want the weekend to be here.

Y'all be safe

Just trying to get through the week.
I am working for the weekend every weekday.

Last night I had a really vivid real dream.
Woke up this morning and knew I needed to stop on the way home for some wasp/hornet spray.
There was a huge wasp nest, similar to what a friend has posted earlier this year on another forum I think, under my deck in a corner.
Near that one, was a big hornet nest.

So, I come home with wasp spray in hand and go under the deck to check out where they are and plan my escape after spraying.
.
.
.
.
.
There was ABSOLUTELY NO WASP OR HORNET NESTS UNDER MY DECK!!!!!

I checked again before coming inside for the evening.
There are no nests.

What a dream.

6hr tomorrow and I'm done for the week.
If I can get to work by 6:30 would be good, 6:45a will work though.
I'll be out of there by 1-1:30p.

Need to figure out my weekend.

Y'all have a good evening & be safe!

Was in back to back meetings from 7AM-1PM... I have to work from home and hide to get any kind of work done that requires more than 10 min of uninterrupted thought. Grrhhhh....

I can't wait to be done with engineering management !

You can't wait to be done with engineering management!! :)
I left that at DOT and went to consultant doing actual design work.

I can't wait to be done with this damn job and design work....

Went to Clemmons Educational Forest this morning around 11:30am.
Took Taylor with me, but not Lilly.
Lilly just can't do much more than about half a mile and we did 4 miles today.
I'm way out of shape - especially noticeable with the hills here.

I would have liked to do another loop of the "Watershed Loop", which is 3mi in length, but that doesn't include the 1-1.5mi hike to it.
Plus, no sense overdoing it and hurting myself.
I'm definitely not 40 or even 45 anymore. :(
Taylor was tiring out too at the end.
I'll work up to doing 2 loops plus the other 2-2.5mi trails.

If I'm gonna go do any hiking in May in the mountains, I need to be in more better shape!

Why won't she (Taylor) drink from any any of the streams that are flowing??
I had water for my self and in previous times, I've brought a bowl for her and put home water in it.
She just turns her little nose up at it and won't drink...

A few pictures along the way.

This "bridge" is a new one.
33788152871_26a67b2a85_z.jpg

There never has been a bridge, the next photo, is where the trail usually crossed, and where I crossed today instead. :)

A moth or something on a tree where I stopped to get my jacket off.
33105084543_b227e60332_z.jpg

There used to be a 5' to 6' wide bridge here.
Guess it got washed away in Matthew?
33876941866_6ef82c9595_z.jpg

Taylor doesn't much like the bridges, prefers, like me, to just walk on through the water. :)

Pretty purple flowers. :)
33761159742_e0cdf864cc_z.jpg

Pipes have washed out on the outlet side....
I suspect a LOT of water going through those and producing a scour hole (blowout) at the outlet that in turn eats the fill away from the outlet...
Could mean that they are undersized.
There has been a large scour hole there for a while.

Inlet is quite blocked up by debris.

Pretty tired after that hike and then coming home and mowing the whole yard with the push mower.
Definitely need new blades or ones on mower sharpened.
Took me about 1.5hr to mow it all.

Then inside for a shower and some ice on my right hip.
It's extremely painful after all of my activity today.
When I saw dr last week, he wouldn't give any pain meds.
Said that didn't solve the underlying issue (bursitis) and I needed to either go to PT (too expensive), get another shot, or do stretches & stuff on my own.
Fine.
I'll try ice and stretching & such for the next month or so.
Kinda hard to do stretches and stuff due to the pain.

If it doesn't get any better, I'm going back and asking for some meds.
Tell him I've done what you wanted me to do and it's no better.
Stupid Obamacare crap.

Grass is cut. Two receptacles wired, had three beers. Whoa, I should slow down.

Went to play disc golf with a couple neighbors up at UNC. Dropped off his new puppy for a visit with his daughter on campus and then had several frosty beverages and some jambalaya at Top of the Hill. Laughed at all those sheep drinking that crappy blueberry beer.

Did some trading and got Shari a G43. She had better than 60% accuracy with a gun she never shot before!! Very proud of my lady!![emoji4]

Oh, and that's ~30 yards on a 10"x15" plate.

Hmm, just got back from a black powder match weekend. On Saturday, we were holding second overall till the last event when the wheels all fell off, tires exploded, and our match crashed in flames into a ditch. In short, our margin wasn't that great, but still if we did consistently, we should'a finished second, but noooooo, we had to start missing about every stinking shot while the others picked up the pace. Darn.

Today we redeemed ourselves, finished second in rifled muskets. Hardest target on the array was powder filled easter eggs hanging from a wire. Try doing that with an 1862 musket, iron sights, offhand. We cleaned 10 for 10, happy dancing all the way back to the holding area. Wheels stayed on for the rest of the match for a second place finish. Over all good day. There is nothing like a long day at the range competing with black powder guns from the 19th century that leave you reeking of the holy black combustion byproducts. When you get home, that hot shower removes not only the smell of the holy black but also any and all resistance to a nap.........

Took my grandson to the range this afternoon. Ringing a 12" steel plate at 50y with my suppressed 22lr wasn't much of a challenge, so we switched to 4" diameter clay pigeons. Broke 5 in 5 shots. So...let's go the 100y bench. Not much challenge there either on the 12" plate.

Loads his own mags, charges the gun, lines up the shot, and executes. Pretty proud of my (barely) 6yo buddy.

Today has been the first day since Tuesday I've been able to hold down food. So I ate a little lunch and went fishing. Caught a couple then I saw Big Momma cruising beds. Threw everything I had at her and she didn't care.

Glad you are feeling better and better luck next time on Big Momma.

Took the kiddos to Triangle Rock Climbing Center. To my surprise, they liked it and asked to return. I laughed at myself when this very young and very attractive lady gave me a belaying test and politely told me that everything I learned 30 years ago, when I climbed regularly, was no longer the way they do things. She said I could do some homework and come back another time.

To be honest, as pretty as she was, I would fail that test evry time if she were giving it.

Got a new toy yesterday, a Kamado Joe Big Joe. I've been waiting for a while to get one. Cooked a couple 16 oz ribeyes and bacon wrapped asparagus to break it in. Today I smoked some St. Louis cut ribs. I washed them down with a few New Belgium Citradelics. Damn good day I must say.

Brewed 5 gallons of a nice session pale ale for summer; planted (or transplanted) a few sawtooth oak trees, visited my Mom, and made some bloody marys, and watched the Masters. Strong day.

Changed the oil in one of my wife's BMWs, as well as took the front rotors off to be turned tomorrow. Put the pump and hoses back on the pool. Played with my daughter's dogs. Swept out the building. Added steps to the ramps for the chicken coops. Gave them all fresh water and collected the eggs. Drank beer.

Cast iron bacon on the grill. Heavenly. Then I just dump the grease outside somewhere. Creates a target area for vermin too. Load up the 22's!

Bed fishing can be tough. Patience, luck and the right lure/bait. It happens. I spent 5 hours on one fish in CA. Never got her. Sometimes taking the smaller male first will light up the female.
