Solo: A Star Wars Story

Tried to see it today—sold out except for first row in every theater within 15 miles of me during mid-afternoon.

This movie is like Trump’s election: the media has been trying to kill it for whatever reason. During filming, they latched onto some dim-written opinions that made their way into the mainstream about th kid’s acting skills. Then there was the delay in seeing any trailers until the Super Bowl. Then the director changes. Now there’s bitching about how they don’t think it’ll live up to a $115M opening weekend...

Even “positive” stories are to the tune of “I thought it would suck, but...”

Give the damn movie a break!

Effectively sold out all over the eastern Charlotte region is a pretty good sign.

They were/are? I thought they were all touting Lando's gender and/or sexual fluidity and some other BS for this one? o_O

there have been several articles on "star wars fatigue" to explain lackluster sales for this movie over the weekend.

it should be clear that low sales are from disappointment with prior movies, and a large push from the fan base to send a message to kathleen kennedy (who is determined to ruin the franchise with her social justice themes and statements made that alienated the original fans). but like most liberals these execs are solidly out of touch with society, and are convinced they know what the world needs instead of what they want.

its ridiculous to think that there have been "too frequent" star wars releases - marvel is a prime of example of how good movies, and strong fan support = big dollars. fans cant get enough.im sure the people involved would like to explain away missing expectations, but the fact is they could produce one every month and if they were good movies, theyd all do well - just like the mcu has.

but these movies dont feel like star wars - and making public "f- you were going to make the movie we want" type statements isnt going to sit well with the fans

You’re right—my boys love the Clone Wars animated stuff on Netflix. It’s essentially a daily dose of 30 minute episodes. They’re very well done in the theme of the original movies. No fatigue at all for them or me when I peek in every once in a while.

Maybe I’m being too naive, but I just can’t believe Disney would let someone run the $4B ship into the ground.

i think thats what people are hoping (its what im hoping)

eventually companies respond to lost revenue and hopefully they will see that they need to get back to what the fans want instead of what they execs think they should get.

Disney today is not your parent's Disney. I don't think they believe it will run into the ground. They are just grooming a whole new fan base. Seriously, look at the mindless Frozen fanaticism. Holy crap that was a bad movie and people were nuts about it! :p

I had an interesting conversation with a former Disney employee a couple years ago. They have and will continue to push towards that delusional SJW dystopia and condition the children along the way. He claims Disney was targeted a long time ago in retaliation for Walt helping fight communism in the US. Since then it has gone lock step with the far leftists and/or globalist elites bent on destroying America. Granted, this guy was a little on the tinfoil side, but it was hard not to see some logic in his points, lol.

This is why I won’t give them any more money. The director of Rogue One even said that the Empire was your evil white men and that is why all of the good guys are minorities or women, and I liked Rogue One. The Last Jedi was so preachy and didn’t feel like Star Wars I won’t give them money until she is fired Kathleen or get the message. The main thing I hear about Solo is that it’s not terrible(other than Lando being pansexual and banging his feminist droid), but that it doesn’t feel like Star Wars.

My experience with Solo matches most people here. In my opinion it’s the best of the franchise since the originals. It was funny, but not comedic in a Disney over the top way (Chewy eating little chicken beings). At the same time it had an underlying seriousness that the originals had.

I enjoyed that it was a “fresh” story and they weren’t trying to answer a thousand different geek questions. They did explain a few things, but not in an overbearing way. Such as where Han got his name, his blaster, met Chewy, won the Falcon, and what was meant by the Kessel Run feat.

I think all true Star Wars fans remind me of 1911 users. Anything that isn’t a good ol 1911 the way JM Browning intended just isn’t ever going to be the same. People who cut their teeth on plastic fantastically just don’t “get it”. With that in mind, here is my gun geek ranking:

Original Three: Colt 1911
Prequels: Keltec in a Hi-Point box
Force Awakens: Taurus
Rogue One: Glock
Last Jedi: Jimenez
Solo: CZ

i'll play:
Star Wars One: M14
SW2: MP5
3: Taser.
4: HiPoint.
5: Kel-Tec.
6. any gun you bought and regretted it.
7. any gun you still have and don't shoot it.
8. this is already too long so i am done with that.

I liked it but...

Han actually speaking wookie was bad.

Han lost a bet and Lando just seems to forget about it.

The train scene was so contrived it should have been cut. why would you build a scenic monorail to transport your most valuable resource when you have flying armored cargo ships?

Watched it last night. Kept my expectations purposely low going in. Pleasantly surprised. Much better than the turd that was The Last Jedi.

My sentiments exactly; I was prepared to be disappointed, but wasn't !

I don't fully disagree, but:

Showing that Wookie is an actual language explained how Han knew what he was saying in greater detail.
Maybe they thought a monorail protected by those droids kill bot things was more protected than the flying armored cargo ships that a couple of goobers had just been able to steal one of. In the end, the heist failed, so, the monorail thing kinda worked.

Anybody gonna buy this on 4K when it comes out 9/25?

Finally saw this movie this past weekend via RedBox. I don't know what all the fuss is about: I thought it was an entertaining movie that fits int eh Star Wars niche/genre.

And since I didn't see a final answer here: the "groove" in front of the Falcon is where the escape pod sat. Han used it as a decoy when escaping the octopus thing in the gravity well.

Only question I have is who does the girl go on to be? I thought they'd have closed that story gap by the end of the movie. Instead, it leave the story wide open for a lot to happen between then and Ep. I with ol' spikey head.

Agreed: Wookie speaking should be left to Wookies.

Losing the bet was because Lando cheated...and I think he knows that Han knows. Easy to write that one off.

Transporting something volatile is never a good idea by aircraft. A train isn't exactly a delicate vehicle, but it's better than losing an aircraft--at least not by modern Earth standards.

What was the deal with the Sith? Didn't that screw up the whole time line? Darth Maul died when Aniken was a boy and there is only one master and only one apprentice. WTF?
