What are the legalities in selling parts printed like this, or has that precedent not been set yet?

I don't believe precedent has been set. However, to err on the side of caution..I would NOT sell a lower....

It would be interesting to see a 3d printed 80% lower......and to mill it out...to see how it would hold up.

Lowers are what are regulated, yes?
I mean, regulated, as in serial numbers etc. Upper parts are whatever.
So, say someone had a 3d printer and made some (and Im just making stuff up here) F G C-9 parts for Dr.Scary and said, "hey dude, give me 10 bucks for this and that" that SHOULD be legal, yes?

Im not asking because Im looking to go into business. Ive got a job and I dont have time or a high end enough machine to print 24/7 and deal with the 'well my part failed..." stuff. But if I made something and charged a few bucks for the filament, shouldnt upper parts be ok?

I would think that technically you would be ok as long as you didn't make the part that the ATF considers the receiver.

Also there is "intent to sale" when you build your own. As long as you are not building 100% WITH the intent to sale, you can build any gun without a manufacturers license. Thats how I am able to build my guns 100%. They are for personal use and there is no intent to sale.

You could print 80% lowers and sale them all day long and technically not be selling a receiver.

As for printed parts, you can't make any part and as many as you want and sell them and still be ok.

Why? What makes printed parts (except for.lowers) any different than if I had a lathe and turned whatever for @HMP ?? A different machine...different process...same part.

A printed receiver would be no different from any other DIY receiver. As long as you aren't making them with the intention to sell then it's handled the same as any other private transfer, though you'll need to add a serial if you sell it. Here's more info on it.

I think we are saying the same way, I just got long winded.

I did say receiver instead of lower.
