Guys, I will eat just about anything and been seeing this in my local Eastern NC grocery stores and figured that I would give it a try. A list of the ingredients include everything from a pig that doesn't look edible. Ears, feet, snouts, all mixed in with spices, cooked for a long time and then solidified into a chunk of gelatin goo.
Don't try it,, this stuff is just nasty. It tastes horrible after you get over the texture.
The Dogs liked it tho. IMG_20230814_135929871.jpg

Grew up raising hogs. Every fall we would butcher about 12-14 for all the households in our family. My grandpa said “we eat everything but the squeal” I drew the line at this , head cheese , and sweetbread .

Well I’m weird ….. if it’s seasoned right with a little hot sauce and a cracker…. Yum Yum!! I like the gelatinous part too but then again I love gummy bears! I’m sure the store bought isn’t as good as homemade but still better than a chittling any day!

Following you on everything but this part. Do you mean bananas, the fruit of the banana tree, or is this a euphemism for eating spotted dick?
Big Waylon won’t eat them either. Bananas that is.

It must be a texture thing.

Or they are from some other terrestrial mass in space somewhere.

I'm the same way with fish. Buts it's more a smell+texture thing.

I want to vote NO but the ingredients in this are waaaaayyy less sketchy than a hot dog.
See? What you don’t know won’t hurt you.

I had a customer who hired equipment engineers from me who built the equipment to make slim jim casings.

I’ll describe the process some day.

It’s not as gross as souse.

Unless grinding up frozen cow hides by the truck load to extract the collagen grosses you out.

You are correct, it's absolutely a texture thing.
I love banana pudding and homade banana ice cream, but huge chenks of banana will het left in the bowl.
Same thing, texturally speaking, with souse meat. My uncle raised pigs and mawmaw and pawpaw ate souse a lot when I was growing up. The looks and smell dont bother me, but that texture...ugghh.

Yep, me too... I don't do bananas, but banana pudding or bread I'm a big fan of.. Its the texture. maybe that's why I put Potatoe chips or cheese doodles on a peanut butter sandwich?
