I was given a Soviet SKS by a very close friend. It is a 1954 to match my birthdate and in excellent condition. Everything matches but the stock's original number was 'x' out and a new number to match the metal bits and receiver was stamped on it. I can't wait to give it a try.

I like the bayonet, but I'll bet it's hard to open a can of c rations w/ it, b/c it can't be removed from the rifle.

Great gift! Love that sovietesque "Mid Century Modern" style! :)

That is nice, congrats on having such a good friend!

Beautiful. I to this do regret never getting an sks while the prices were "reasonable" I was looking at a gorgeous matching numbers Russian on Gunbroker the other day. $1200. yeah thats not going to happen. At least not on my budget. Congrats

Thanks - the accompanying thousand rounds of Chinese ball ammunition that he gave me with the carbine is an even more significant gift now that Russian ammo imports are ending.

That Triangle symbol on top signifies that it's a Tula...made In the Tula factory......if my memory serves me correctly. Top notch sks!

Enjoy

The value of the Soviet SKS's has shot up faster than most firearms I know of. Congrats!

The Tula factory stamp/marking is a Star with arrow inside. His rifle is a Izhevsk Arsenal rifle. Izhevsk SKS's (arrow inside a triangle) are considered the rarest of all the Russians since they were only made from late 1953 through 1954.
And a very nice example too!

Your rifle likely is an arsenal rebuild (since it is in really good condition), check and see if it has a stamped square box with diagonal slash, or small diamond with slash on top of receiver cover or side of the receiver. In your photo of the factory markings looks like an arsenal rebuild stamp above the factory stamp but I can't see it clearly enough to be sure.

Great piece of history and fun shooters also.

It doesn't have the rebuild mark you describe.

Seeing that beautiful rifle brings back regrets of trading away the Izhevsk SKS I once possessed.
Even more interesting to me was it had CCCP stamped on the receiver too.
Enjoy that beautiful girl @rufrdr !
