SpaceX Crew Dragon Demo 2 (First Flight w Humans)

very interesting suits, much different than usual/normal
Musk designed those with the help from Jose Fernandez, a costume designer that worked on The Avengers and other super hero movies. Elon wanted the astronauts to look cool, but also wanted the suits to be functional. They're supposed to be like tuxes.

And I'm sure the astronauts feel all warm and fuzzy now, after today's (Fri) SpaceX test of a new rocket...

We jumped in the car yesterday, cruised on down to watch the launch (today, tomorrow, Monday?)
We have a great room, scoped out the public beach access at Lori Wilson park which is where we will watch from.
You can see the launch structures with naked eye, rocket is easily visible with binos.
Last night, we ate inside a restaurant then, had drinks in a bar!!! Inside & with other people!!!
From talking to other viewers, we should see Air Force 1 when it lands.
Viewing a Space Shuttle launch was on my Bucket list... This will have to do.

I am kinda disappointed that the boosters will not be returning to Cape Canaveral :( I was really hoping to see them vertical land.

Interesting- I could swear I saw the astros wearing mirrors on their right wrists for the scrubbed launch- their vision downwards is hampered by the helmet and I saw them using the mirrors to check belts etc.

Today the closest astro doesnt seem to be wearing one.

Edit: NVM I just saw his as well- apparently higher up on his sleeve than before...

Jealous. I had the thought but wimped out. Glad you made it. Launches are truly worth seeing in a lifetime.

anybody else notice something fly by underneath the first stage when it was coming back down, and the something reflecting behind them at the stage 2 separation?

Well that was cool!
So happy it went smooth, I didn't want to witness more sad history being made.
Nothing like the old shuttle launch... Very little smoke trail on this one.

Difference between solid rocket fuel and liquid. The “smoke” from the shuttle was the two SRB’s. The main engines didn’t puff at all.

Reminiscent of Apollo-era capsule broadcasts:

I thought they were able to go under/behind the seats—guess not. That thing really is a tin can made just for trips to the ISS.

The Orion capsule has more room, I believe/hope. You’ll need a little more elbow room to go to the moon/Mars.

I do worry about so much electronics. I know their engineers did too and likely have some sort of protection and/or game plan for loss of power. At least the old cockpits had relays, breakers, and fuses you could fix on the fly. Kinda like old cars versus new. There’s no way in hell a modern car owner can do much more then change oil. An older car—shoooooot...I can hotwire the radio from the cigarette lighter (that’s right kids, those things were invented to light cancer sticks, not charge iPhones), while pulling juice from the hot feed to the ignition switch or a direct wire with my own home brew inline fuse right from the battery through the firewall. Don’t dare do that on a today’s car! Liable to self-destruct!

Coming home today. Deorbit burn is around 1:45pm. Splashdown is sometime between 2:40-2:50pm.

Somebody really needs to stage a C19 zombie apocalypse for these guys.
The world really has gotten arguably worse from when they left back in May. I would totally do that if I were the ship captain of the recovery vessel.

Doesn't get much better than that!

So awesome! Glad to see them returning safe! Commercial space flight is on it’s gonna take us to the stars!

they've been gone for two months. on one of the most high tech devices in human history. in contact with Earth constantly.
I dont think it'd fool them.

Don't you remember "The Last Ship" series? USS Nathan James was doing Arctic work and spent a few months in EMCON. Came back and a pandemic had wiped out nearly everybody. It was a good series, and most of the Navy stuff was pretty realistic; I did enjoy it. But I had to try and pretend that EMCON meant you couldn't listen to a radio. And that a Navy ship (not a BOAT like yours, @RetiredUSNChief ) could go several months without any gas or groceries.
