Anyone been getting these spam emails lately?
  • "I have hacked your computer. I used that porn site you visited to install a virus that took over your camera, and I have video of you pleasuring yourself. I have taken over your email and Facebook accounts. Give me $3,500.00 via Bitcoin or I will post the video on your Facebook account and email it to all your friends."
  • "Your ex-lover paid me $3000.00 to throw acid in your eyes. If you give me $3000 I won't".
And to prove it, they show me my password, and it's the one I used on the old NCGO site. Years ago, I would use a simple password on a few sites that didn't involve money, or some unimportant site that required registration like TundraTalk so I could research something. So I did use that password on more than one site. A few years ago, I started making my passwords really hard, and never reused one, but I never changed NCGO since I don't go there anymore.

So I can't prove it was NCGO that was hacked. Have any of you had the same experience?

I wouldn't tell them anything or respond in any way. I think they are bluffing. They don't have a video of you jerkin the gherkin...

NCGO is a disaster. They insist on using a format that no-one else does and their Canadian overlords cannot figure out what to do and apparently it's a constant clusterfark. Even the regulars that won't leave are always complaining about issues...lost pm's, avatars disappearing, security breaches, all kinds of weird stuff.

There are lots of password breaches on various sites. Some enterprising buttmunch has decided to attempt a blackmail scam with the info.
Just ignore it.

I got an email about a month ago that said something like and that they had my password (which one?) and it wouldnt do anygood to change it because they had installed a bot. I changed that email service sight password. I think they got my email from somewhere and an old inactive password. Havent seen anything since until today, google keeps saying somebody access my account that wasnt me so I had to go thru all that.

Scam. Don't respond or worry about it. No telling where they got the old information from. Constantly update your passwords and make them as difficult and random as possible. And if it is still worrying you take your computer to an expert and have them check it for viruses just to be certain. I know several others who have gotten these types of emails.

Joe nailed it - its a scam and that's all.
It's nothing.

Now, the unfortunate thing is that they probably do have that password, so hopefully you dont use it other places, if so, get to changing it. But I wouldnt worry about an ex paying to have acid thrown on you or something like that

You obviously don't know my Ex. ... She would do it in front of our son, then blame him.

Of course it's a scam, and I had no thought of responding to it. They hacked some site and sent the same threatening emails to thousands of people, hoping to get a bite or two. They probably tried to see if their victims used the same password on Amazon and eBay, but I've always had everything important locked up tight. If a bunch of you had said, "hey, me, too, and it was my NCGO password", then I'd know where they got it. Since that didn't happen, I guess it wasn't NCGO. If they start making posts under my account on some throwaway site I visited years ago, I don't think I would know or care.
