Any guidance regarding shooting after a TBI incident? Over the weekend I had a bad fall where I hit my head on the edge of a block wall on the way down. I heard a crunch from the hit and a scan showed minor bleeding on the inside of the skull. i ended up with staples in my scalp and a major Ieague continuing headache. I know that is very weaksauce compared to the pressure wave from an IED but this is my 3rd documented concussion and this time with internal bleeding.

I'm getting a follow up from my family doc this Friday but I'm wondering what those with TBI have been told about shooting after such an injury?

As a sidenote my veteran son was on scene when I slipped on the leaves, got me stabilized, stopped the bleeding with a headwarap bandage picked me off the ground like I weighed 10 lbs, got me to Holly Springs ER and has been watching over me ever since. Holly Springs ER was fantastic.

Ouch. Three concussions?? Wow.

The noise of shooting is less concerning than any pressure differential that may result, mainly with long arms. I would not sweat pistol so much. Let your symptoms dictate what you do. The headache would get worse with shooting, that's for sure.

I was going to say, I am not sure what you have is really classic TBI, but given that you three concussions, yeah, I think you've earned the diagnosis.

More than the noise, I was thinking of the recoil impulse through my body to my head from firing . 30 type rifles as well as 12 ga shotguns. I imagine handguns shouldn't be a problem.

Damn Karl, be careful! That’s scary shite. You know how to reach me if you need anything at all. I got nothing better to do. Good on your son, you raised a good man. Shooting is safer than yard work; when rakes are outlawed…

Thanks Rick. No more yard work for me!!

The follow up said no shooting, especially heavy recoil shoulder fired weapons for several more weeks at least.
