Sportsman special auction

Definitely a .45 ACP, then. Billy and I might go head to head on that one.

Well, I don't plan on sticking my head between you two.

I'll just say, best of luck to you both. Ha!

I might ride out, but I'm willing to be the good stuff will bring a good bit more than current market value. The last gun auction held there brought unreal prices. Not sure if everyone got hung up in auction fever or just had no clue to the value of guns. If it weren't for the high commission fees, I'd be tempted to put some of my extras in the pot.

We are still planning on being there.

Ride out, if nothing more than say hi to some of the other forum members.

I don't have @BBD280 kind of money, so I'll be there to watch the shenanigans and shake a few hands.

If I had your hand I'd fold mine. Lol

As for me, I really don't know what current market value is on most of the items. But, it really doesn't concern me too much, considering I don't plan to be in on the bidding.

Honestly, I've never been to an auction of any sort. I'm going because I want to experience it, the timing and location is convenient, and I may just get to see and chat with a couple members.

Ya'll have a big time! We're meetin Mr & Mrs @Geezer for dinner in Corn Hole at noon. I'm sellin anyway, not buyin. Ya'll git outbid over there ride another hour this way, I've got 2 safes full of good stuff and I guarantee it will go for less that the auction.

The last auction I went to I bought a Spanish mauser that had been rebarreled to a 308 for $140 I knew it had a new barrel but no clue as to what it was.

Took it to a gunsmith to have it checked out Sold it for $750.

Sooooooooooooooo, what happened????????

@cubrock is going to need Icy-Hot on his arm and neck. If he wasn't raising his hand, he was nodding his head yes.

I ended up ferrying all the stuff he was buying between him and his (obviously very patient and understanding) wife. BTW, she is a sweetie!

It was so bad, I had at least two people ask me if I was with him, and one dude even laughed at me because as soon as I delivered something to his wife, he (or someone near him) was handing me more stuff. Dang!

Definitely some interesting stuff there...
12/30 seems like seems like a terrible time to have an auction.
I'm sure they know more about scheduling for max results then I do!

I think the crowd was bigger than they anticipated. They ran out of preprinted registration tickets.

@kcult once again proved himself a stand-up guy and I am in his debt. He was a God send to my wife and me today - stepped up to help with watching and ferrying the stuff without being asked and helped us almost the whole day. It was a lot of fun talking before the auction, but once it got going, it got serious. My wife really enjoyed talking with him and REALLY appreciated the help.

I am sorry it turned into so much work for both of you. I had gone with five or six specific guns in mind, but there was so much really good stuff in the non-gun lots, that I couldn't help myself. We nearly filled the back of my truck with the "junk", but I got only one of the guns I was really after. I bought several others for inventory, but the two biggies I wanted went out of my league and a bigger dog than I won in each case. It was a fun time, but I'm glad it is done. It has been a really long day. :)

I owe you a steak, a drink, or both, @kcult. Give me a heads-up next time you may be up my way or at a show and we'll make it a date.

Oh, and, by the way, that renickeled S&W 1917 went for $800 plus 10% buyer premium plus sales tax. Jaws hit the floor all over the place when the gavel went down on that one. I bid it up to $500 and I was done. It was a factory refinish and rebarrel, but still....

@cubrock
Did you happen to notice the winning bid on the 3913?

Either $375 or $400, plus premium and tax. I thought I was going to win that one at $300, then someone jumped in right before gavel and it went up again.

If he comes up for the show in Greensboro next month, he can help man the CFF table, you can buy him the dinner you owe him and he can buy me the dinner he owes me. Everybody’ll win. :D

I bought an excellent one in that price range but it only required driving 15 minutes for the F2F. ;)

By any chance do you remember what the Browning Hi-Power went for? Got hung up at work and didn’t make it. That was the only gun that I had any interest in and I’m betting it brought every dime it was worth and maybe more.

The way some of the bidding went, I expected that gun to reach $1200, but it stopped at $950 (plus tax and commission).

Yeah, I dropped out at $750 on that one.

Surprisingly, the .357 Martini went for only $300. I got that one. They are neat little guns. I got the .22 Winchester Winder single shot for only $200. It is a bit rough but the action is worth more than that.

$950 or $1000 plus commission and tax. It had several spots of light pitting, like it had been left in a wet gun rug. I wanted it as a shooter, but dropped out at $750. I thought it went high for the condition, but the guy who won it seemed pleased.

There was a skinny dude sitting on a table behind you. He was the one you were talking to about the Citadel clothing. When the auctioneer was trying to get the BHP to $1k, that dude raised his hand just below chest high. I think he wanted to participate without really being all in. Lol.

I would have dropped out too. Every now and then you can find one in box with papers and the soft case for 1000-1200 and be like new. They don't show up every day, but are out there. there are a lot of the BHP out there that are imports that you can pick up for $450-500 and make great shooters. LEO trade ins from overseas. Cosmetic wear but I've seen several that were tight as ticks.

This one was an early T series, so that ups the ante some, but not as much as that guy paid.
