Trying to self teach some basics and get better with some of my rifles, but it is very tough when you can't see where your hits are. Any advice on spotting scopes? Right now I am only shooting at Wake Co. 100 yard range. But I'd like to see 22lr at 100 and 5.56 at longer down the road. Going to sell some guns and possibly order a good spotter. I am clueless. Let me know what you have and what works.

This one came pretty highly recommend by a few on here. I haven't bought one yet so I can't speak to the quality.

Konus 7120B 20x-60x80mm Angled Spotting Scope Kit with Case and Camera/Smartphone Adapter + 3 JZS CC-20 Micro Fiber Cloths https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N413Q15/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_JwcwzbX3TWBYG

Shouldn't you be trying the Athlon spotter? The specs include ED glass and such at what I'd guess by your price on the group buy would be maybe 1/3 of a Vortex Razor HD.

three things:
1. BaK4 prisms.
2. Fully Multi-coated.
3. here's how to tell....
look through the Big End and see the shape of the light from the little end.
if it's like a diamond or square=not BaK4. BaK4 is round (more light, better image).
again, look at the lens on big end but not straight on. angle the big end up.
if you see at least two reflections of the ceiling lights with one being sort of green
and the other shaded violet, that's FMC. if you see two and one is the actual
color of the ceiling lights, that's only MC. Fully means all glass is coated.

of course, the box or online description might say which coating and prisms.
trust, but verify. sometimes the cheap Chinese brands brag too much.

I bought a Leupold Ventana (cheaper) off Sierra Trading Post. You need to check out the Ventana (I think its discontinued, maybe) decent price with accessories. I shoot regularly at 300 yds here at the farm, and it works great.

I started posting in the other spotting scope thread I missed when I started this one. I ended up getting a Vortex Razor HD 11-33x50. Great compact scope. Perfect for my normal 100 yard range visits. At 100 yards 22 holes look huge on white paper. Very good optics. Could also easily fit in a small backpack for hiking. If I ever get to the point where I am shooting long range I'll have to suck it up and upgrade. Just for public info the Vortex and a very nice compact Leupold tripod cost just about $700. Not cheap, but not a $2,500 Kowa either. And it made my last range trip bery pleasant. Should habe grabbed one sooner.
