My first handgun ( that I found out later I got for a steal ) was this basically NOS Star Model 30MI. I paid 280 for this beauty back in 2021 after getting in touch with its owner on another forum while trying to inquire about a S&W 5904 that had unfortunately already sold, but when he offered me this tank that I had never heard of, I have since gotten lost in a rabbit hole of old defuct manufacturers & importers.

As far as I am aware I am the 3rd owner of this firearm as the previous owner had received it from a friend as a gift. Up until getting into my hands it had never been shot.

This thing is INDESTRUCTIBLE to say the least, the only malfunctions I've ever had with this gun after some 300-400 rounds were induced by sketchy aftermarket mags. Magazine compatibility for old Star Pistols is their main draw back, seeing as Star went out of business in the late 90's ( shortly followed by InterArms, the importer for Star Pistols into the US ) but they can still be had if you look in high places. I bought my first 2 spares from Numrich, they were unbranded aftermarket magazines for the Star Model 28 ( functionally the same as a Model 30 ), one Magazine works well enough but while testing the other it does not seat properly causing feeding issues. My problem was fixed this past Christmas when my girlfriend bought me 2 newly produced Promag 10 rounders made specifically for my gun and since then I've had no issue with them.

I'm in love with this pistol and it's my main carry gun at the moment. Maybe that has to do with it making 9mm feel like .22 or maybe it's that mine is marked as " StarFire " which is not only just a cool moniker but also a pretty rare importer marl on the gun which significantly raises its value. Either way it's never leaving my possession so long as I live and I'm currently searching for more Star's as we speak.

If you have any Star's drop em in the comments below! šŸ«”

I've always liked the late model model naming scheme they had. Firestar, Ultrastar, Megastar. I imagine if they would have continued on there would have been a Superstar.

Never shot one but the Ultrastar seemed ahead of it's time. Single stack, poly frame, smooth lines, low bore axis.

Oh definitely it sucks they went out of business, there was just something about them that put them in a league of their own. FireStars are definitely the most common that are still out there and available, I saw a .45 one at my local gunshow a few days ago for 250 and wish I could've grabbed it. And UltraStar is basically my dream gun right now besides a Smith 645. Century Arms had one for under 300 dollars a while ago and I hate that I missed out but I've since found another that I've got my eye on.

Wait wait... what have i missed here?
Im not dragging out the megastars.
I don't think they could have used Superstar, as they already had the Star (Modelo A/B) Super from long before- that may have inspired the Mega/Ultra/Fire thing.
Never owned the firestar/firestar plus, but if one came along I wouldn't hesitate.
I did a big write up on the Astra A80/90/100 recently, and keep an active change log for it as I find different examples around the web. The Astra A70/75 I think I like better than the firestar, but dont tell nobody. At the moment, Astras, especially in 40sw are very inexpensive and easy to come by. It's taken me forever to find another Ultrastar, and they're very infrequent on gunbroker as well. The Megastars cost a kidney these days, they're slightly overhyped, but they are nifty. The Ultrastar was heavily inspired by the model 30, wish they would have kept the double stack mag, but political climate of the times. Im a sucker for 90s antiquities. I really like the Astra 44 revolvers. No experience with llama's though I wish I had one of their M82s

Oh the jealousy, I have my eyes on a .40 S&W UltraStar for 400 and it hasn't left my mind since I found it. Recently saw a .45 MegaStar with 4 original mags go for 505 on gunbroker, didn't get alot of attention because for some reason it was listed under 1911šŸ˜‚

Star PDā€¦

Unfortunately, I can no longer post a photo of itā˜¹ļø
I had to source some pd buffers not too long ago :). An awesome overlooked blaster. Ian did a video on it with Dr Antaris not too long ago, and he's the Spanish pistol authority in the usa. I wish his books were just a tad cheaper.

I have a couple of Stars that I'm pretty pleased with. They're handsome (at least I think so), they feel good in the hand, and seem to be well made. Not terribly expensive either. The Star BM:

Star S.I. (.32ACP). This is comparable in size to the little Llama Especial, but more refined. I'm not wild about the grips, but replacements are scarce as hens' teeth.
