Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

Ol’ cocaine lips is dead but they’re gonna CGI her in, so her involvement will likely be limited.
Unless you’ve read something recently that actually says it, that’s not the way it’s been explained. At Star Wars Celebration it was said (I think by JJ) they actually had enough footage from the last two that they could have her included without a CGI version.

Will we see Luke’s force ghost fight the emperors force ghost in the ruins of the death star?

I think we will see Luke's ghost be an angry old man and the Emperor's ghost be a happy / cackling old man.

No CGI

I felt like The Force Awakens started out really strong, but got weaker as the movie went on. I wanted to like Rey, but when she became a skilled Jedi about 15 minutes after finding out that Jedi's are a thing, it kinda killed it for me.

I've seen all the others since then. I found them entertaining, but not particularly good. Personally, I feel like they shot themselves in the foot in The Last Jedi, when that ship crashes through another at light speed. If that was a viable way of destroying enemy vessels, why even bother with tie fighters and x-wings? Just use light speed kamikaze drone ships...

I will probably see this new one too, out of habit. Star Wars was a huge influence on my childhood, and I loved it as a kid, but as I grew up I discovered real sci-fi, and I much prefer it these days.

Yeah you're right...and you're standing in the way of my rant and finding ways to not like the new stuff!!!

Rey’s a Clone. The Evil Rey is a Clone. There are probably thousands of her, most failed, except for the two. Ow you don’t have to answer the question about her parents; she has none (if she turns out to be a clone of Luke from his hand on Bespin, well, the Skywalker Line continues and she could technically be his “daughter.” Or they’ll make Keri Russel a Mara Jade type character from whom she was cloned.)

Her “test” will be fighting herself, a la Luke vs Clone Luuke in Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire trilogy, with a resurrected Palpatine in the roll of Joruus Cboath.

All those original Empire variety Imperial Star Destroyers emerging from the darkness? That’s the emergence of the Katana Fleet - same as Zahn’s storyline just with a different class of ship.

My problem with the new ones is their willful disregard for the original characters we grew up with, and a new crop of wholly uninspiring twits with little to no character development or story that I actually care anything about. I’m not invested in any of them.

The Last Jedi is the only SW film I have only ever seen once, and the only one I don’t own.

The Rise of Skywalker will be the first SW film I won’t see on opening night (I wasn’t born for A New Hope, but did see each of the Special Editions on opening night). I’m just not wanting to go stand in line for hours only to be bombarded with PC tropes and no one is special unless everyone is special nonsense.

I hope I am wrong.

I thought the same thing about the Star Destroyers. The Resistance will find then and that's how they will win. The clone thing I can get behind as well since the scene with "evil Rey" she shows more emotion than in any of the other movies. Looks like poop on a stick.

One week to go...

I've watched a few first-person perspectives of the new Disney World Rise of the Resistance ride--awesome-looking ride and I'll get to it one day. But I had the minor epiphany when listening to the cast talk to the guests...I keep hearing the word "resistance" instead of rebels. There it is again, right under our noses, the whitewashing of something deemed "needs to change" by an entity who thinks their moral duty is to cleanse the population. No more is the word "rebel." I know it's been changed that way since episode 7, but it took me this long for it to click. In fact, hardly any of the original Star Wars is present at the new Disney attractions. It's all new SW. I'm in fact very surprised that they allow storm troopers to have guns.

I'm not trying to turn it into a Disney-bashing. Just pointing out the not-so-subtle change that happened in near record time right before our eyes while we're being dazzled with the smoke and mirrors of new movies and attractions.

Watching Ep 8 again. FWIW...I’ve heard Rebels multiple times. Two that stand out are once by Kylo and one by purple-haired lady.

Kylo must have used the Force to make all Disney employees forget that word.

My kids said we have tickets for the 10 am showing on Saturday morning. 10 am on a Saturday morning. What the hell.

I’m also there at 10 on SAT, but it’s all good because I’m seeing it for free.

6p on Thursday.

And also have them for 10a on Sat. They can be canceled up until show time if we want.

The Sat morning tickets are pretty cheap, at least on AMC. We usually do that or the $5 Tuesdays. Only real exceptions are Marvel and Star Wars opening days...which were made much easier when AMC put in the reclining seats, and you buy reserved seats online ahead of time. Now you walk in right before previews start instead of standing in line hoping for a good seat.

I'll see it when I see it... Maybe this time next year on Disney+ if it's still a thing...

I'm just not all that excited for this one, which kind of makes me sad, in a way, as Star Wars is something I have enjoyed pretty much my entire life. I dressed up with my 7 year old cousin for the premier of Episode III. I still have lightsaber battles with my kids, in the house, out in the yard. I lived Clone Wars, Rebels, and the Mandalorian is good this far.

But this "end of the Skywalker Saga" trilogy just doesn't feel like Star Wars. It just doesn't.

Characters I have "known" for 30 years are no where to be found, the new characters are flat and uninspiring, the last entry was done specifically to thumb it's nose at fans (or as the director put it, defy expectations) and made the ability to recover the story difficult if not impossible.

I just don't know. I tell myself that I will see it in theatres, but I am more stoked for the next Top Gun (new trailer dropped today and it looks awesome) than I am the close of a story that has been a major part of my life with regards to entertainment.

And in my gut, I feel like it's going to be visually amazing, but incoherent, rushed, and altogether just a spectacular dumpster fire. :(

Luke transitions into a Jedette

<11 hours

The episode of Mandalorian had a sneak peak after the credits last night. Wife turned it off after it was clear it was new stuff not seen in the trailers. She didn’t want any spoilers.

Gonna be a lot of disappointment over this movie. His reviews are pretty good. He is a huge Star Wars fan. He said it sucked.

I think the review above hit on a few points, over all, that I can agree with without having even seen the movie yet. The first Trilogy flowed very well from one movie to the next, it was logical, built a story line, and had relatively "realistic" behaviors out of the characters (as much as space wizards can be realistic...). Luke took time to learn the force, the Empire seemed dangerous, the bad guys were bad guys. The new movies, even 1-3 seemed cobbled together, as if they were trying to do too much, with too little and ended up doing it poorly and then basically calling fans "boomers" for not agreeing that they are good. The first movies had state of the art (for the time) special effects, but they still relied on the characters to ACT the part. My favorite parts of the newer movies are when they mix the old characters with the new, and in a way that respects the "old" characters for their contributions to the story, not as an afterthought or easter egg tossed in for nostalgia sake.

The mandalorian, I feel, has gained such traction with us old school fans because it "feels" like the same world we fell in love with back in the 70s and 80s. A dude who hasn't taken off his helmet in 7 episodes has shown more genuine emotion than any of these new characters in all their movies. I "care" about what happens to baby yoda and Mando, but honestly Finn or Poe could go down with the next big boom and it would probably bother me less than Porkins not pulling out in time at the first Death Star battle.

so very true!

I just watched that and he said everything I hoped not to hear. Guess I'll be waiting for Disney + release.

Highlight of the night...my wife has now officially opened for Star Wars.

The school my son goes to and she’s a teacher at has a new commercial in the preshow at Concord Mills, and she’s on the screen for a couple seconds. We got here in time to see it on the big screen!!

The new movies are great, they've shown just how awesome lucas really is/was. Now if he'd just release the latest trilogy with all kinds of bullsh*t cheap CGI changes that altered the actual character development from the originals, that would be TOTALLY awesome! And maybe, instead of Kylo killing Han Solo, Han Solo commits suicide first just so he doesn't have to listen to his stupid, whiny, angsty idiot son any more.

There. FIFY to remain true to George Lucas' tactics.

I know it's just for special effects, but it amazes me that in the real world, we have missiles that can shoot down missiles, targeting and tracking systems on tanks that can literally jump from sand dune to sand dune at 45 mph or more and hit other moving targets with a single shot, precision guided munitions with pin-point accuracy...and even laser weapons ourselves.

And a galaxy spanning empire has weapons which can't hit squat at literally point blank range.

Fun to watch...but the inner me has eye-roll strain.

I’m canceling my ticket for seeing it a second time tomorrow. Wife and son are going back.

Just finished watching it with the family. I enjoyed it very much. Light years (see what I did there) better than Ep. VIII. It felt much more organic, original, inspired, and surprising, compared to VIII’s cliche, formulaic, and rehashing of old plot lines.
I told my wife on the drive home that the last movie (I just can’t force myself to even say it’s name it was that bad) was so awful that it practically ruined the entire franchise for me. If that had been the last movie in the Skywalker trilogy of trilogies, then I would not be able to ever call myself a Star Wars fan again. Yes, that movie was that bad - it killed my fandom of movies that I grew up loving. But this movie was so good that it rekindled my love and appreciation for the SW universe. It was seriously that good (to me).
Perhaps part of the reason is that I went into the last one with my expectations so high, that there was nothing for it to do but to let me down. Consequently, I watched this one with my expectations kept intentionally low. There was no way I was not going to watch it, since it is the conclusion to the franchise. But I in no way felt like going into it that it would affect me the way it did. Very glad that I took the time to watch it this weekend.

As long as they don’t have space bombers with bomb bay doors it will be an improvement.
