Starting my 6.5 Grendel build.

Oh I see, yeah I bit the bullet and bought all the tools I thought I would need to start building my own earlier this year. Had another forum help me get the brands and tools that really work and not just the ones with good advertising.

This will be my first upper but with the Noveske kit it pretty easy to assemble.

Lowers I do at the the kitchen table and it takes me about 30 minutes to complete a stripped lower.

I've done a few lowers, I just don't have the vise for the uppers and blocks right now.

I seen your posts on ARF ;). LRRP has a great amount of information out there for the 6.5g.

Next year I plan on doing a light weight build 18 or 16 inch barrel.

Specs for the one being shipped:
Spikes Upper
TBox 20" Barrel
JP BCG
Seekins SP3R
Adjustable Gas block, Rifle length gas
SWFA SS 10x scope
Lower:
Windham Bushmaster
Larue MBT 2Stage trigger

I need to get a PRS stock at some point, but I've burned up my funds for this year on guns pretty much.

2nd round of parts came in today, BCM LPK/Noveske Marked Vltor MUR upper/Noveske 16.7" hand guard/ Noveske gas block with black rifle length gas tube/ Noveske pivot and take down pins.

I was going to wait until I had everything but I couldn't resist assembling the lower.

She's a beaut, did you order the barrel yet?

Yes, the barrel has been on order and is part of a group buy on the Grendel forums. Last word we had is that they were laser engraving the Grendel Monster logo onto the barrels and doing their final QC of the 50 barrels that were ordered in the 20" length.

I got lucky and jumped in on the group buy last month now that the barrels are almost done, there have been guys on the list for over a year waiting.

Right now I show the two BCG's I ordered from sionics being delivered next Wed and the 100 rds as well. The Houge grip will be here today, it was held up in TX due to the flooding. I have the BCM grip on for now so I'll see if I'm going to switch or not when it gets here.

I won't get the 6.5 Grendel specific bolt until the barrel is ready as they ship together, and my 6.5 mags are still on back order.

Duh-oh... Now I remember you stating that earlier. I've a NIB barrel identical to mine, I ordered two- 18” McGowen modified HBAR, dual fluted, glass beaded, hand lapped, Cryo stress relieved SS barrel

Ordered 2 10 round mags, 100 rounds of Wolf 100gr, 20 rounds of 120gr, and 20 rounds of 123gr.

See what my gun likes when I get it.

I am only missing a charging handle and optic to have my upper running. It may get some parts donated from my 5.56 SPR in the meantime.

Shipping shows my two BCG's and ammo will be here on Wed, still now word on the barrel or mags so i'm in no rush.

I did order an SLR Sentry 7 adjustable gas block, figured if it fits under my hand guard I'll install it. If not then at least I know it doesn't fit.

Also ordered an ADM Recon 20 MOA 30 mm scope mount, I want to get a better scope so at least I'll have the mount ready. For now I'll use the vortex viper.

I just checked and the high capacity mags are still on back order, I see they're made in Israel and shipped here so I'm guessing that's why it takes so long to fill the new order's.

I didn't want a larger magazine, too tempting to do Mag dumps with expensive ammo... its why I sold my machine gun. Lol.

I figured 10 rounders keep the Mag size down and enough ammo for my plans with the gun.

I just called and AA just received an order of mags and their starting to fill back order's, she said If I don't make the list for this round of mags the next shipment is in six weeks.

Ordered 2 10 round mags, 100 rounds of Wolf 100gr, 20 rounds of 120gr, and 20 rounds of 123gr.

See what my gun likes when I get it.
Get you a box of Alexander's 123gr Lapua Scenar ammo as well. I thought the Hornady shot well, but the AA is about 25% better. Also, if you ever get up to Newton, Highlander Armory is huge on 6.5G. The owner has actually worked with Bill Alexander.

Next group of parts.

Sionics NP3 coated BC and cam pin plus the firing pin and retaining pin, this will be used with my 6.5 bolt that is coming with the barrel. I picked up the other sionics BCG because they had a great sale price and I'll have it for the next build.

The SLR Sentry 7 adjustable gas block, you can see beside the Noveske low profile that their about the same size so it should fit under my hand guard.

100 rds or Hornady ammo

The hogue grip, not sure I'm going to use it on this build. Doesn't quite have the feel I thought it would so I'm sticking with the BCM grip that came with the LPK.

Last some extra BCM panels for the keymod handrail, really love these things!

Waiting on the Elander mags, barrel w/bolt and the new ADM scope mount, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I've had to file down the lip on all my AR stoner mags. If you put rounds in it and slide them out, the neck of the case will hit it. Once filed down, they work great. Not sure if yours are that way

I have the AA E-Lander mags coming, shipping says they'll be here Mon. Not sure the elanders have this issue?

I'm still on hold waiting for my barrel and 6.5 bolt, so I can't do any testing until they get here. I have everything ready so once the barrel get here I should be at the range that day testing the rifle out.

Try the mags before you chamber a round, I figured out mine needed filing by the bolt riding over the round and ruining it.
Mine also grouped .25" tighter with Hornady custom than black. Which is weird since custom isnt match grade.

Congrats, very nice!

Just for thought, the PRS stock is heavy as crap. I would never buy another one. If you do still get one, it doesn't come with the rifle buffer tube or buffer and spring so you have to get those separate.

No help on the mount, I didn't have an issue with the $100 Burris PEPR mount I was using but I was advised that a better mount would do my build justice so I picked up the American Defense recon. I don't see or feel much of a difference between the two but the ADM has a built in 20 MOA that might help with the longer distance shooting so I bought it.

The current viper scope will be going back on the rifle it was on with the burris mount, and next payday I plan to use the Vortex military discount to grab a more high end Vortex scope, 40% off will save me about $500 compared to the online stores.

My current mount is a SWFA SSALT, or something like that name, going to get an Aero mount I think to go a little lower

Looks like a real good shooter you have, I'm getting anxious to get mine up and running and to the range. The last update was on Wed and we were told the barrels should be out in a week to a week and a half so hopefully soon.

Since I'm getting bored waiting I did order a VG6 Gamma 65 muzzle devise to use instead of the BCM comp, the bcm would have worked but it was for a 300 blackout. The Gamma 65 is specific for 6.5 so I decided to go that route.

Also decided to upgrade from my Harris smooth leg bipod to and Atlas QD PRS bipod, not sure it's going to be worth three times as much as I paid for the harris but now I'll see what all the fuss is about.

My barrel dimple jig came in and so did my extended 2mm allen so I can adjust my gas block while it's under the hand guard.

Barrel and bolt arrived today!

First I set my SLR adjustable gas block over the barrel and then slid the NSR hand gaurd over to make sure it wouldn't touch, everything was good. So I grabbed the SLR dimple jig and went out to the garage and dimpled both screw holes.

Then I pinned to the gas tube to the block, I was waiting to make sure it fit before I pinned it.

I did use blue locktite to seat the barrel even though it was already a good tight fit, and then used areoshell 33 to grease the barrel nut. Torqued it on with the x3 tighten and loosen and then installed the handguard.

Final build list:
Noveske Gen I lower with BCM LPK
Geissele SSA-E trigger
PRS stock with monopod
Elander mags
Noveske marked Vltor MUR upper
Noveske marked Geissele super charging handle
Sionics NP3 coated BC with monster bolt
16.7 Noveske NSR handguard
SLR sentry 7 adjustable gas block with black gas tube
Faxon 20" 6.5 Grendel barrel
VG6 Gamma 65 muzzle device
ADM 20 MOA QD scope mount.
Atlas Bipod BT46-LW17 PSR

And I have a Vortex Viper PST gen II 5-25X50 FFP scope that shipped today.
