Steel Targets

AR500 steel, 1/2" thick holds up pretty good.
The 3/8" plates do ok, but don't really care for big rifles and magnums.

They don't go 'ding' when you hit them, but the self healing rubbery plastic targets are quite durable. You can shoot them with anything, and you can get them in gong styles or any number of shapes.

I made my own out of 1/2" steel plate that is not AR500 steel. .308 wont go through but the plates are bent all to pieces. Tarheel Targets is reasonable on price on the plates and he ships them USPS flat rate

I made a variety of them from 1/2" AR500. Quite the adventure. They range from 4"x6" to 16"x18".

Finally took them out last month:

I can endorse 1911GoBangs "Tarheel Targets" products. I own several of them and have been very pleased with their quality.

I have Bad Ass Targets round 6" fixed which I have not shot yet. I also have RSR steel IDPA style which hang from a holder. I have whacked the RSR with .308 and 300 blk at 50 yds. We shoot those at 7-25 yds all day with .45 and 9mm. They have held up well. I am always open to new target manufacturers. I would love to have many more........ course I never shoot much, as I am lacking a range to call home.

I've shot a lot on RSR steel targets and the BadAss Steel Targets. Both work good I prefer the RSR targets slightly more since they don't seem to pit when you shoot 5.56 at them from a closer than recommended range.

To the best of my knowledge, none of the targets I sell have pitted, either. Just sayin'. Besides, if you are shooting them at less than recommended range, you're asking for trouble. It ain't an "if" thing. It's a "when" thing.

That's a good thing and would love to try your targets out. I know the recommended range for the badass ones are 100yd I believe. I usually shoot between 25-75yd.

1/2" AR500 is the only way to go IMO. It'll stand up to just about anything at 100yd w/ zero damage, and won't do more than dimple even at 25yd.

I bought a couple 8" plates for cheap, I'll see how they hold up April 1st weekend. Need to build a couple hangers this weekend.

Good advice. It ain't pitting of the steel you need to worry about.
