My YHM Resonator is mounted to my 300blk Ruger American. I have two different flavors of Lehigh Defense that I want to use this upcoming deer season. One is 152gr controlled chaos loaded to ~1700fps. The other is the 194gr maximum expansion at ~950fps.

Stupid question time: Is there any risk of damaging my suppressor using either of these?

I was fairly confident there was no risk, but I got called out once for shooting 147gr hollow points through my Revolution 9. Nothing bad happened, but it left me scratching my head.

The Resonator is rated up to 300 Win Mag, it will handle any 300 blackout load.

The Rev 9 and hollow points is also an non issue...…. hollow points are an issue if you use wipes in your suppressor. The hollow point will strike the wipe, possible causing the bullet to expand which could strike a baffle.

Oops. I should have clarified. My bad.

I wasn't concerned as much with the rating of the can as I was the potential of the bullet expanding. I mentioned Lehigh Defense specifically because I believe the round was designed to expand easier than others. Maybe I'm mistaken about that. So, I'm curious if that would be a problem.

And that's good to know about the wipes. I had just installed the new flash hider end cap on my Rev 9 and planned to use wipes. But, I didn't plan to shoot hollow points through it because of the gun it's on now. I have 158gr subs I'll be using.

I don't know of any bullet that expands by friction from air...….. If they did..... I imagine the flight would be erratic, leading to some wild accuracy.

The Ruger American has a 1-7 twist, enough to stabilize any 30 caliber bullet I know of.

It's always a good idea to shoot 5-10 rounds without the suppressor first.
Shoot at paper and look for a clean round hole. If the hole is oblong or keyholed it means that bullet is not stablized.
This can happen with certain combinations of bullet weight and rate of twist, barrel length, velocity, etc.
Never shoot unstable bullets through your suppressor, it's asking for a baffle-strike.

Good call.
