I recently traded for a Kel Tec SU16C, a brand of rifle I've always been fond of (I've had an A and a B model previously). The C is nice because it has an underfolder stock that will fold over a 20rd GI style mag and can be shot in that fashion if needs must. However, it makes the gun very nose heavy (the stock weighs nothing) and I find myself eyeballing the Kel Tec AR stock conversion with the pistol grip.

SU16C factory configuration

SU16 w. pistol grip and AR stock adapter (also optional compact forend)

Has anyone used an SU16 set up with this? I'm curious how they liked it, since it does put a slight angle on an AR stock. And before anyone says get an AR, I prefer the simple AK style gas system and crazy light weight of the SU16 and reap the benefits of the abundance of AR mags.

I would leave it as is. The size and flexibility is what makes it a great little rifle. Very packable. That's the best version of that rifle because you can fold it and still shoot it. A small red dot and leave it be...

I've had the 16C and wish I had it back. The fact that it can be fired while folded is what makes this rifle so cool.

AKs are front heavy too. Control the weight of the rifle with your left hand when shooting. When reloading pull the rifle in a bit and lock up the stock with your forearm. Here is a demonstration:

Leave it be, the reason it is cool is because of what it is, imho if you go changing the stock you might as well trade it for a ar.

I would leave the rifle as-is. Being able to fire it while folded is a neat feature, and it packs into a small space when folded. I've been considering picking up one of the exact same model for a while now.

I have one and would leave it as is. as has been said, the ability to fire folded is a very good feature. They make great truck guns for this very reason.

Just a tip, you will need to use metal GI mags instead of Pmags in 30 round. The Pmags have a tendency to hang up in the cut out of the folding stock.

Yeah, even the Pmag 10rd one that came with it makes the stock balk a little. I'm planning on picking up 20rd "GI" mags rather than 30s, I like the shorter height.

I see what you're saying about the stock and the grab and shoot is an excellent feature. It's almost light enough to shoot like a damn pistol as is. If it had a 10-12" barrel it would be ideal for that. Maybe I'll get used to it.

Nice vid, that's more or less how I reload my SAR-1 but that thumb index trick is neat and duly noted. I really don't notice the imbalance in the AK half as much as with the SU16.

This will be my third SU16. They always ended up being traded for other gun stuff, usually for AR bits. Which is dumb, because I always ended up finishing, disliking then selling my ARs.

For me it's the crazy low weight and AK gas system. No fiddly little tubes, no crapping where it eats, no fuss, no muss and runs dirty.
