Sub compact tractors,

@Majicmike
Also look at kioti..the other orange tractor..lol

I've been researching them recently and must say...they are impressive. Higher lift height....more weight...more lift capacity (than green tractors 🤪), larger tires....

I'm wondering why I haven't looked at them sooner. Watching a bunch of homesteaders that use the CX2510 (25HP) and the cx3510 (35 HP). Price and performance is the #1 thing most people say is the reason they went with their kioti.

If I had to buy a tractor today...my two I'd look at is the TYM T25 and the Kioti CX2510. I haven't broke down the specs between the two.
but I think the kioti has more weight and is a tad larger frame/Tires. Both are Korean made tractors...which some say are better than Japanese tractors. Tym has the yanmar engine...(JD has yanmar...Yanmar tractors have yanmar, and a bunch of others). Kioti is a deo dong or something like that....been around like 60-70years.

A lot depends on your application. I haven't seen any tractor that can beat the lifting capacity of the loader or 3 pt hitch of Branson tractors...which branson and Bad boy tractors are 'cousins'..lol

Hope this helps...

I’ve had a Kioti DK65 tractor for 19 years, and would buy it again.

Oh...forgot to add

Bobcat tractors are really Kioti's

TYM is the parent company of TYM, Rural King, Branson and Bad Boy tractors. Some have Yanmar engines...some have Kukje engines. Both are super reliable from what I've researched.

TYM makes most Mahindra tractors under 40HP as well.

Our Farm used to be a Nursery that bought potted plants, didn't grow anything, so the whole place is rolled gravel 8" deep on top of clay. First step to recovering the soil is to dig up the gravel. I've done it with a bobcat as well as with a bucket on the front of a small tractor. I liked the tractor more than I thought I would.

What small tractor would be best at this task?

A tractor is made to move dirt and pull stuff. It will dig but not excell at it. I used a ripper tooth to break up the hardpack. Once that was done it was easy to scoop and move. It is a great tool that's relatively inexpensive.

My new one has a backhoe instead of a ripper. The BH is more in line with what I do. Always regretted not getting one on the 1st tractor. 3 out of 4 jobs just in the past months have been an advantage to have a BH.

Tough thing about digging up anything with a bucket/loader configuration is it wants to gouge or dig, best tool for this one will be a push blade such as a dozer. This will allow you to control the depth and push the gravel into stockpiles, may even be able to sell it at the end of the day if you can keep from digging and incorporating too much dirt. Look into a skid steer and dozer blade rental and you’re in business

A skid steer is made to do that. It's perfect for that. But it's expensive to start with and it costs a ton of money to buy all the accessories that you can get much cheaper for a tractor.
The bucket on the front of a tractor is less visible than on a skid steer, making it harder to control with any kind of precision.

If its a large enough area might be worth while to sub it out to someone with a small dozer or large skid steer to skin the gravel off the top and put it in a pile you could reclaim or sell depending how much you get and to recoop some cost if you didnt need the gravel. We bought some gravel from local contractor that had done that since it was much less price wise and for our purpose didnt need to be clean stone. Reason i say might sub it is that process is going to be hard on a tractor long term or it much to do.

My search is over. Should have in a couple weeks
Kubota 2501 TLB

New tractor with used back hoe. Saved me 4K. Really happy with that being I couldn’t get a new Backhoe attachment. So it was basically the price of most other new attachments.

Action pics:) Got it yesterday. I’ve spent 10 minutes in it and my future son in law has about 4 on it. Backhoe is doing exactly what I hoped. He got up these 3 stumps in about 2 hrs. Big one was about 14” at the widest point. Tractor has a lot more power than I expected.
