Suggestions for Equip. & Supplies

Good info folks. While not new to the process, owning something will be new to me and I have little hands on experience compared to most.

I’m wanting to get into it for the hobby and independence. RCBS kit is one the list. However I really like to disperse freedom seeds and with my limited knowledge have decided either RCBS kit to be on a budget or (what I’m talking myself into) is a single stage to deprime (then take them to brother in law to clean) and a Dillon 750 to load with.

I want to load 9, 556 (bulk) and.... 308 (precision and that’s what the single stage is would be ideal)

I think the best word you used in your post was " Independence" and this is why I got into reloading many years ago. Personally, I dont like reloading. I find it tedious and boring, but I do it because I can weather the market ( Factory ammo) shortages with a steady supply with my own loads that might suit my needs better. If I can save a few $ in the process, thats a winner too.

It is a common misconception that reloading will make shooting less expensive. All it does is make you shoot more for the same money. Just sayin before you go down this rabbit hole.
It’s how we all justify the investment though.

Be careful sharing that info, someone’s wife might see it and squash their plans!:D

This is huge, if yer like me & into offbeat calibers. For the cost of 100rds of locally available commercial .41Mag, I can load over 1100rds. I can go blast 300rds of .41 in an afternoon without breaking the bank. 'N even for "out there" stuff like my .357Max, once you eat the cost of new brass, you can load it as inexpensively as any other straight wall revolver cartridge.

For me, it allows me to play with some really cool chamberings that I couldn't afford to shoot otherwise.

I bought a Lee single stage kit a few months back. Is it cheap? Yup. Does it do the job? Yup. Am I loading thousands of rounds? Nope. Not at the moment anyway. Will it last? Time will tell. I will admit though, in hindsight if I knew a little more I probably would have gone with the Lee Classic Turret. Future purchase perhaps. We'll see. You may want to start out with something you don't have to spend a lot on and the Lee single stage fits that description. I'm only doing 9 and 223 and honestly before this craziness happened it wouldn't even be worth it as cheap as ammo was unless you were doing an offbeat caliber. I like fiddling and the alone time so no biggie for me. Especially now. Now, and for the foreseeable future with the ammo hoarding I think it's a wise investment. I'm not sure if you have all your supplies yet but some are hard to get and if you do find them you're probably going to pay a premium. Luckily I had all of my stuff before all this madness went down. I'll still grab something if I see a deal though. Never hurts to have more. So far I'm enjoying it. And yes, as stated above, we're not going to save a ton on 9mm and 5.56. So if you're married, as I am, and told your wife the investment will save you money down the road, as I did....well...that's your story and stick to it. My wife has no clue what everything cost as opposed to factory ammo and I plan to keep it that way. :)

What's the BST? Is that a thread on here? I'd like to grab one. Sorry, I'm new here. Just getting familiarized.
Classifieds.

Short for Buy/Sell/Trade.

Never, ever, ever tell the wife what something actually costs. Don’t lie, but don’t offer free information.

That being said... Dillon is about to get a chunk of my change real soon. First time buyer, newbie reloader and firm believer of buy once cry once. I’ve reloaded with my brother in-law and observed the benefits and shortcomings of his set up.

I don’t see myself getting tons of time since I have younger kids so I want that time at the bench to net me as much ammo as possible. I’ve been saving and recently negotiated a space with the wife to build into a reloading station for a 750 set up for 9 and 556 (she would freak out if she knew the cost). I’ll get a single stage for the 308 once I’ve settled in and wallet cools off.

Dillon Team Blue! I've had mine since Clinton was pres.
Same here, I’m still happy with it and then. In ‘99 Dillon stopped selling wholesale to their dealers. Between the Y2K upcoming panic, and local dealers dumping Dillon product, I was able to talk my wife into the wisdom of blue.

If you have the money, but not the time, there is nothing wrong with that logic. "Maximum utilization of available resources".
