......are made for musket drills.

So the kids and I have had the afternoon to ourselves while Mommy is out at a wine and painting thing with one of her girlfriends. They have toy muskets, powder horns, all that.

My 6 year old daughter has decided that the afternoon should be filled with marching at shoulder arms.... dressing lines and all that. My 2 year old son happily agrees.

So I taught her line commands - the last several hours have been filled with:

"Make Ready!"

"Take aim!"

"FIRE!!!!!"

Bang, boom, bang.

"RELOAD!"

.....at which point powder horns prime pans, charge barrels, and it starts again.

3 or four volleys and she yells "CHARGE!!!!" which is the funniest thing in the world to these two as they take off through the house, muskets levelled at the waist.

She even got a rudimentary lesson in cover and concealment this afternoon.

I've done a lot of amazing things in my life - travelled the world on a submarine, been as close to a shuttle launch as you can get as the guest of the Director of Kennedy Space Center, started up a nuclear reactor - being a Dad is the best thing on this Earth.

I went and practiced some shooting drills and hung out with some good friends and had some awesome cheesecake. My afternoon was not nearly as good as yours.

Sounds like a great afternoon! I can't wait until mine are old enough to do stuff like that.
I did get to teach our 2-year old how to use a real hammer and nail today. He loved it! The nail was unrecognizable by the time he was done though. :p

It never ceases to amaze me how something so small can be so destructive to stuff. lol

Kids are awesome.

Minion and I helped work on an older scouts eagle project this morning. Then we grabbed the kayaks and hit the lake for about an hour and got some lines wet. It was definitely a good day

That is the truth on both accounts! Mine were out of town this weekend, and I was struck, as I have been before but had forgotten, by how quickly I could organize the house AND how long it stayed that way.

I have come to think of the kiddos as entropy machines on legs...

I couldn't help but think of this scene, when I read the OP...

This is the second time someone's used Benjamin Martin w/regards to their perception of me. As much as it warms my heart - I don't know much of anything about fighting with a tomahawk.

I have been wanting to buy one, though.
