Supreme Court to take on a 2A case

I'm from NY and NYC is pretty much a country unto itself. After I met my now wife from Queens, I inquired about the rules of moving into NYC with guns. I quickly realized that I wouldn't be able to compete in any of the great matches being run out on Long Island anymore because of this rule. Whenever I see people complain about the purchase permit that NC has for handguns, I laugh inside knowing that it's so radically different in other places that are supposed to be in the same country. It's also the reason why it's important to fight every fight and not sit back and watch it become more like NYC.

I didn’t click the link but if you live in the city, you can’t transport your gun outside of the city? How does that make any sense? How do you get it into the city? I’m so confused.

Yeah, I scratched my head on that one too. How can the city have power over what you carry when you travel to other parts of the state? New Yorkers need to wake up.

Because they state right on the premise permit that it's not valid outside NYC. Since you can't even be in possession of any handguns without a valid license, you're an instant felon as soon as you cross the imaginary line in the sand. Of course it would be effortless for them just to make it valid outside NYC, but they choose not to. For everyone outside of NYC, their carry license says "Not valid in NYC" on it. So just like they can't leave the city with a handgun, I can't enter NYC with one. That said, FOPA does still apply so one can travel through it as long as you don't make unnecessary stops etc.

Ridiculous

Wow, truly set up like a different state. I sense scotus will squash this as there is little legal basis, just “because we can and we’re special”.

Since Heller and McDonald, the 2A has firmly returned to red headed stepchild status within the Bill of Rights. This will be an important one to watch as it will I think be a good litmus test for future action against the multiple state infringements we've seen take place over the last several years. Not to mention any coming federal actions.

NY claims FOPA doesn't cover magazines or ammunition. They hassle people passing through all the time hoping to get quick cash settlements from them.

They voted in an avowed socialist with no experience outside of slinging booze. They voted for Cuomo even though they know he is corrupt to the core.
You can't expect these people to do anything sane. NYC controls Albany. Corruption and other criminals controls NYC. Criminals hate guns that are not in their hands. Criminals love gun control.

This should be an easy ruling calling that NYC restriction unconstitutional ... it should be unanimous in fact ... but we know at least 4 lean so left they’ll be looking for anything to uphold it. The real thing to watch will be Kavanaugh’s comments ... I still say he’s not as conservative as he was made out to be in the hearings. Roberts, Thomas, Alito and Gorsuch should be easy unconstitutional while the other 4 could be either way. It could be truly ironic if Kavanaugh was the swing vote ... he’ll have to show his colors.

I don't trust Roberts much either, but agree on the other three being solid.

Honestly I think the litmus test I was referring to above is most specifically about how Roberts and Kavanaugh will rule.

But it won't be. Geezerburger, Kegger, and SodomyOrk don't give two 5hits about the constitution. AGENDA UBER ALLES is all that matters to them.

I escaped LI NY in 1990, in 1977, I wanted to get a permit to buy a .22 pistol just for target shooting at the county range.
Went to police station, desk officer ignored me for over an hour, despite my repeated polite attempts to get his attention.
Finally a detective walked in and asked what I needed, took me inside and explained the six page NCR paper application.
Worse then a mortgage application, five references not related by blood or marriage, blah blah blah, can't carry it open or concealed,
can only take it to the range and back home. Took the papers and when I got home tossed them in the trash.

This is big. SCOTUS did not take a 2A case for eight years (2010-2018) because neither the liberals nor the conservatives were confident they could get a fifth vote to create a majority for their side. That stalemate has changed.

I'm assuming you can't get both NY and NYC permits to cover both bases??

NYC unless you are well connected, very well connected with One Police Plaza, 'forgettaboutit'.
One business man tried for over two years to get a permit in NYC, they kept pushing him aside, asking for tax records,
business records, more fees, filing fee, blah blah. Stacks of paperwork and no refund if denied.
Normally not issued to non residents but court ruling allowed part time residents to obtain one.

I have this casual internet friend. She's a nurse in NYC. She recently divorced and was talking about getting a pistol permit. I thought, this will be interesting to follow. I remember her telling me about the application process, later going in for the interview, etc. A few weeks later, she said she got her call to pick up her permit. I thought, holy crap, who does she know??

Great, could be the references she had. Get her to move down here, her skills are in demand and no NYC taxes.

Nothing has changed since Tammany Hall

I can say I had no issues entering or leaving with one. Multiple times. I also carried in MD and DC with one. Never a bit of trouble.
They target out if state tags, in MD and DC if you have a spent brass, a used primer, one shotgun hull they consider it ammo.
Without a FOID card you risk getting arrested.

I was pulled over with at least two guns in my truck around 400 rounds of assorted ammo. The guy shined his flashlight in my truck and he had to have seen the mags and ammo all over the place. He said I thought you weren't wearing a seat belt have a nice day. I said you too and we went our separate ways. That was right on the other side of the Woodrow Wilson bridge.

^^ You were lucky.

I smuggled a Winchester 62 that was my dad's. Buried it in the trunk when packed in MA. Made it on purpose through NY/NJ without stopping. My wife was "what no potty stops?". Hell yeah, 5mph above the posted speed on cruze, still being passed 75% of the time. Didn't want to stick out.

Hypothicaly speaking...

I told him keep that shit covered in your truck or we are going to jail. He was a consultant from east Tennessee he made at least 100k a year. He died of a herion overdose over a year ago. Hell of a dude. If I told you all of my Maryland stories I'd be banned from the site.

NYC has several types of permits, if you want to carry concealed, you have better chance of winning the PowerBall.

Premise Residence, Premise Business, Carry Business, Carry Guard/Security, Limited Carry, Gun Custodian, Retired Law Enforcement Officer, Special Carry, or Rifle/Shotgun permit.

This is all the obstacles you have to navigate to make an application for NYC permit.

In NYC you need a Premise Residence permit to conceal carry inside your own house/apartment in the event you also have police officers present in your residence.
