Working on the super Blackhawk today trying to get all the pitting off the barrel. I got that done and that left the barrel in the white. I don't know when I will get back out here to work on it so I wanted a little rust protection. I also wanted to try some different things with bluing just to see what happens.
I started with boiling the parts in distilled water. I need to give everything a good cleaning anyway. So I pulled the parts out while the water was boiling and shook it dry. I grabbed the BC Casey perma blue and put it on heavy. I got instant color. I kept wiping it on and the color got deeper and richer. I put it back in the boiling water and let it heat back up. I pulled it out and did it again. One more boiling rinse and I was done.
I am really surprised at what I got. It looks like a hot dip bluing job. I stopped sanding at 120 grit. I wonder what would have happened if I would have kept going.
