Texas Pete for BBQ, Franks, for wings, Cholula for my eggs, Sriracha for the Asian flavor, Yucateco for most anything else, but never tabasco... It's gross...

El yucateco

Yes. The habanero green specifically, but they just changed the recipe and took out the blue and yellow food coloring that made it bright green. It tastes different now...

I really only like Tabasco straight on chicken wings or in chili. I'm sure this is sacrilegious, but I don't think I've ever tried Texas Pete.

Franks in melted butter or margarine with garlic makes an outstanding wing sauce. However, I think Tapatio or Sriracha in melted butter/margarine with garlic is actually better.

Sriracha mixed with honey also makes a phenomenal wing sauce.

Each hot sauce has it's proper place.

If I could only have one I'd go with the Pete.
Just about every restaurant up here in the mtns. has a bottle of it on the table.

Ther are SO many preferable options but as an experienced 3rd shift gas station food professional (ate many a gas station meal) . Texas Pete can make cardboard taste better.

Tabasco just makes whatever it's on hotter. Cardboard is hot cardboard, grass is hot grass, etc.

There is no hot sauce better on eggs than Tobasco. But in this case the answer is YES.

In general, Tobasco, with my favorite being the Chipotle Tobasco, hands down.

Texas Peat has its uses, though.

Chipotle anything is good! I might smoke me some jalapeños this weekend. Need to create something good. The wife will be away. Thinking smoked meat and whiskey!

Smoked jalapeno (chipotle) salute!

Smoked poblanos (ancho) are nothing to shake a stick at.

I grew up on Texas Pete, and I like it on fried chicken, but between the two, I'll take Tabasco.

My personal preference is for Franks Red Hot and Valentina Mexican hot sauce. I typically use both together at the same time. Texas Pete tastes a little bland to me.

Valentina is awesomesauce- have you found a grocery store that caries it?

Like many here, I grew up on Texas Pete. Went over to Frank's for a while, but came back to Texas Pete. Currently have both on the shelf though. Was never a Tabasco fan, but it is suitable with some foods. Just got a bottle of the Green Jalapeno to try.

Tobasco's got some funny commercial videos on youtube. This is my favorite:

Voted Texas Pete but have other preferences first. Tabasco has a bad after taste to me. However I will admit in a pinch I'll use Tabasco. There have been a lot of other great ones mentioned above!

Left to right...
  • Dave's Insanity Sauce. First "real" hot sauce I ever had. I still have some and use it, but it is intense. Not for amateurs. As mentioned before...shake well :D
  • Tropical Ghost Pepper Sauce. It strikes ME as not quiiiite as hot as Dave's. I like the flavor. Also intense.
  • McCutcheon's Screaming Hornets. My in-laws get me this in MD (so I don't have to go up there). This has great flavor, and it's not so hot. Instead of using it by the drops as the first two, you can pour it on your food (well, I pour it). It's a slower burn, that doesn't peak as high.
  • Yellowbird sauces. My other in-laws got me this one year. These are also not as densely hot as the first two. They expire faster. Very nice flavors.
I like all of these in chili, my wife can't have ANYTHING hot/spicy, so I have to make it plain and add sauce later. I like all of these on eggs (scrambled or omelet), vegetables, Caribbean-style beans and rice...

I would say that the Screaming Hornets and Yellowbird sauces can be enjoyed by most folks, except those who can't deal with any spiciness at all. The other two are not for the faint of heart :)
Never been a fan of just vinegar and pepper, like the two poll choices...

Daves! Eating that is like a religious experience. I keep a bottle in the fridge, and every now and then I'll get a little brave.

WalMarts in the Hispanic section. You can also pick it up on the cheap at Buckhorn flea mkt.

Made over in Windstorm Sailin, I believe it's correctly called Cackalacka Pete. Ain't votin' until you fix that.

I like a lot of different hot sauces. If I had to choose between Texas Pete and Tabasco I would choose TX Pete but if I can choose something else I would. My go to these days for a universal everyday all purpose sauce El Yucateco Chili Habanero. It is hot enough but not too serve to most people. Some of the other stuff I like I can only serve to people who love hot stuff and can take the heat.

Anyone ever watch First We Eat's The Hot Ones... interview show? It is a great interview show while eating some really hot wings. He starts with something fairly mild like sriracha and build to some insane stuff like the last Blair's Mega Death which claims to be 550,000 Scoville units.

These are 2 really good episodes.

I just grabbed some of their bright green habanero sauce. It is decent, but with that color I am terrified to read the label and see what is actually in there. Pretty sure it will take weeks off my life.
It also comes in a glowing red. Get the XXXTRA hot, it's brown and has a smokey flavor.

I have had the others I will have to try out the Yellowbird. I think some of the sauces just are too hot for the sake of being hot. They lack flavor and nuance. I agree 100% with Padma Lakshmi when she says that hot sauce should be hot, sweet, tart and salty.

All three of them are good, but I think I liked the green serrano one the best, especially on eggs.

YOU've got to try Benny T's Vesta, he grows the peppers & makes the dry 'sauce' in Cary. It scares me, it's the only thing that made peeing scary. It is/was sold @ Whole Foods in Cary.
I finally tossed Dave's Insanity, it's stupid hot yet no matter what I mixed it with it tasted like burnt shite.
My wife's and my current go to is ElYucateco XXXTra Hot.

I'll have to give that a try. Those Carolina Reapers are something!

Texas Pete, for the flavor. I have a grilled chicken BBQ method and the flavor that comes from the Texas Pete is the secret. Just doesn't come out the same with Tabasco and other hot sauces.

They both taste bad w/o heat. Sriracha's great, ElYucateco XXXtra Hot has a great smoky flavor, Benny T's Vesta (from NC) is stupid hot.
Cabot Habenero cheese make a sammich hoppin'! https://www.cabotcheese.coop/hot-habanero-cheddar-cheese#tab=bars&slide=101

Good call. I use Vesta all the time. Great stuff. I have two versions of it. Great stuff. You can buy it at the butcher shop on Kildaire also.

I'm ok with both, but really prefer Tobasco. Texas Pete tastes sweet to me.

When I got introduced to Vesta, I had too much and had a new experience the next morning...
I went to the bathroom still half asleep, as soon as I started to pee- *OWWW!!* my plumbing was on fire, I yelped and danced on my toes not able to cut the stream. My wife was laughing at me, confused I was horrified she'd cheated on me. After a couple cups of coffee, I put off 'relieving' myself to the point of pain from fear. Thankfully, Vesta only burns at first pee.
I've a healthy fear of that stuff & still cook with it.
