Not all warranties were transferable. A nontransferable warranty means the warranty is only applicable to the original owner who purchased it from an authorized dealer. If you buy one used, there is no warranty … even if the original owner just had it for a month. Here is a side-by-side comparison of the major warranty terms. This info was very difficult to gather, but hopefully this helps fellow precision shooters understand what they’re paying for.

All Leupolds are transferrable warranty. I hear much of some manufacturers warrantees. "Great CS! They sent me a brand new scope!"
I have heard people malign the Last eupold lifetime warranty that covers the scope forever as far as I can tell.

I bought my FIL a Vari X III 2.5-8 for Christmas one year, used. It was missing the Leupold medallion on the side. I just wanted a new one glued back in place. I sent it back to Leupold. I received it back in about 3 weeks with a work sheet detailing the work:
New medallion(great that is what I wanted, job accomplished)
Replaced scratched occular lense(there was a scratch?)
Replaced objective(just in case?)
Replaced floating adjustment turrets with improved click movements(dang!)
Optically centered turrets and checked range of motion
Cleaned and regassed
WOW!

Price: the cost for me to ship to the left coast about $15.

That is customer service.
No they didn't send me a new scope, so I guess their CS sucks

The snippet of the Vortex warranty is the reason I put SPARCs on all my builds as opposed to some of the other bargain RDS options out there.

Vortex VIP Warranty: Our VIP warranty is about you, not us. It’s about taking care of you after the sale. We will repair or replace your Vortex product in the event it becomes damaged or defective – at no charge to you. If we cannot repair your product, we will replace it. You see, it doesn’t matter how it happened, whose fault it was, or where you purchased it. No warranty card to fill out. No receipt needed. If you ever have a problem, no matter the cause, we promise to take care of you. (Note: The VIP warranty does not cover loss, theft, or deliberate damage to the product.)

You may be able to match that warranty, but it would be tough to beat it.

Wow. It's like you just had the scope "blueprinted".
