I'd never shot while using one until this past Labor Day. Did a quick Amazon search and it looks like I'd spend at least $125 to get one?

Are there better/cheaper options around?

If I'm by myself, do some have settings so that it's a longer time from button push to beep...so that I could press it, set it down (or move away from whatever I have it sitting on), get in a ready position and then it beeps? Like having a minimum of 3 seconds after the button is pushed?

Is there a used market at all, or do I need to find one of the free shipping/discount codes that Brownells or Midway puts out?

Thanks for any input...

I had a CED7000, but it was prone to overcharging. I didn’t like the buttons, as it felt flimsy and Cheap. It is one of the most versatile versions to get.

I have a PACT III that is large, heavier in feel. It is very sensitive. It can be set to measure shots or you can set it up as a par timer.

Phone apps aren’t sensitive enough.

I have a CED7000 and a Pocket Pro 2. They both have pros and cons. I tend to use the Pocket Pro 2 more.

Almost any shot timer will have a random delay setting.

They don't pop up often on the used market. That being said - I bought both of mine used. I think it saved me $20 or so each time.

PocketPro II.

It's got delay with a min/max setting for random. Everything is pretty easy to access. If I don't use backlighting the battery lasts a year of 1-4 hour a week usage.

Maybe they give a sweet discount to clubs I dunno, but it seems to be the most common at matches.

Competition Electronics Pocket Pro 2 would serve you well. They are used in matches all over the USA.
Spend the $$ and get a good, quality shot timer... Think of it as a quality tool that you are adding to your gear. Once you start using it and learn its capabilities, you will wonder how you got along without it.

Another vote for the pocket pro 2. I love mine.

Just clip it to your belt and work with it from there as you practice.
Hadn't considered that as an option...thanks.

Safe to assume the $24 difference is nothing but color choice? They're not different models with different options, right?
Yup. Get the blue, be like all the others out there. Just scribble you name or SS number on it so you'll know its yours.

But by God, be careful, practice can get you killed in the "real world" bro.
Care to expound on that for a second? Here or PM, doesn't matter to me.

Competition will get you killed in the skreets. Erry one knows dat

Another vote for pocket pro 2

Turn off the backlight, set the delay 1-2 seconds and train on

Just being a smartass. There's a cadre of experts who come into the competition and practice threads to inform us that practice/drills/competition is going to make us freeze in a "gunfight" and likely make us all die, similar to how practicing Golf doesn't actually work on the golf course, or how Jeff Gordon's racing experience has ruined his ability to apply the brakes or make right hand turns, or make it to Traders Joes alive.

They feel that their steely eyed gaze and CallOfDuty experience will carry the day.

I’m late to the party but I just ordered a Gray PP2 from Midway, it was on sale and figured a gray one will be easier to keep track of since everyone else has a blue one.
Thanks!

I've yet to open mine...but now that it seems blue ones are everywhere, I just initiated a return and ordered the gray from Midway. Saved a couple bucks due to free shipping and no tax.

As an NCSU grad, I'll gladly ditch anything blue I can. :D

I have the grey one. I paint marker everything. I should mask it off and neon orange it the way I set stuff random places.

There are apps that are out there for your phone... I use it when I am just practicing. It doesn't work well for competitions... you need a bona fide good quality timer for those.

Can anyone recommend an app that is worth downloading?

I want to start @BatteryOaksBilly 's Wizard Drill here at the homestead but I'm not ready to drop coin on a timer just yet. If I can stick with the drill for a couple of weeks I will be upgrading to something real for sure.

It's a challenge. Moreso revealing because of the simplicity of it. It won't qualify or work for people who play games [I doubt there are many people on this forum who have played more than me]. It is designed to test what we carry for. Not mine but devised by Ken Hackathorn.
Go on YT to see The Master explain and demo it.

I had the IPSC shot timer app. I think its effectiveness is somewhat determined by the hardware it's installed on. And your willingness to tinker with the settings, I have little. Mine would pick up shots in other bays or steel hits then miss a bunch of mine, if I was stationary and set it just right on bench it was great.

For the price there is no risk to trying it.

True dat... I used mine on an outdoor range, closest shooter was 40 yards to the right... indoor public may have to tinker with the settings....

I was reading reviews, for what they are worth, and downloaded the Splits - Shot Timer before y'all posted.

No complaints so far but I shoot at home and alone, it didn't pick up my neighbor who was shooting a 1/2 mile down the road.
Out of the box settings appeared to pick up my pistol coming out of kydex but one quick change and it was good. I will try the ISPC one tomorrow.

Thanks guys..
