Looking for my first tattoo...and possibly my only one. I'm looking for a recommendation for a shop within an hour of Wake Forest that will do a nice job with the attached picture. Going to have it applied on my left side, below my heart facing the correct direction. (I know - it's going to suck, but my tolerance for pain is high)

Clean shop (don't want hepatitis!!)
High quality
Fair prices
No regerts (haha - no mistakes!)

Taking suggestions....

Thanks

Check out Glenn’s Tattoo in Carboro. I haven’t been to this location personally but I have been to this Wilmington many times and he only has great artists working for him. He also works out at that location himself occasionally I believe and he is amazing so I would try to book an appointment with Glenn himself if it were me.

Lee Zheng at Red Leaf Tattoo in Carey. He did an amazing, custom piece on my ribs.

P.S. I don't care what you think your pain tolerance is, I have many tattoos and the ribs absolutely suck.

No doubt. No work on my ribs & no plans to. Sternum is miserable, though.

OP- good on ya & that will be a cool piece, but if this is your first piece, you could not have picked a worse place. Not knockin' on ya at all, but I'm not sure you quite know what yer in for. Feels for all the world like someone cutting you with a jagged scalpel, all the while pokin' & jabbin' at 90-100 times per second. You'll get a brief respite when it starts to go slightly numb, right before it starts to burn.

Still a bitchen piece, though. I'm covered up in ink, but no way I'd do my ribs. Yer definitely in for a ride..

Check out inferno ink in Burlington, speak to a guy named Jordan. He did my last one and does excellent work with a light touch. I’ve got ink on both ribs and it was miserable. By far the worst spot I have had done. I also hated getting my calves worked on, but the guy that did them was very heavy handed.

Y'all are making me rethink my location to over my heart (pec). I have an athletic, muscular build so that spot wouldn't be directly on one.

Smarter spot? Wussing out? I want the ragged flag... Don't want to hate myself either.

Chest hurts like a bee-yotch, as well. Nipple area burns & the sternum is not fun at all. That said, the chest will most likely be a much more tolerable area. Ain't nowhere they feel like butterfly kisses, but I think the ribs would be bad juju. If you already had some ink & knew what you were up against, I'd say go for it, but I'm thinking the chest would be the smarter move for you.

It's not that bad, but is a uniquely painful experience. And a word of caution- they are addictive

My daughter had a fantastic dragon tat done her arm, elbow to wrist, done at Little John's near UNCG.
Great work.
Took two visits.

You don't have to get it all done in one session. Get the outline, let it heal. Shading, heal. Color, heal. You run the risk of never going back after the outline though.

My piece was 3 hours of hell. No amount of meditation can take to you any other place but laying there getting your ribs hammered on. I have a full sleeve, chest/collar rocker, ankle, all have areas that are a little tender. The ribs are by and far the absolute worst.

If you want it there, go for it. A piece like that in a spot like that, you gotta commit man. Any solid tattoo artist would be glad to charge you a setup fee (usually $50) to hit an area without any color, just so you get an idea of how it'll feel. Maybe you should give that a shot.

Great piece. I'd rather take a pointy stick in the eye as to ever have ribs done again.

Even back when I had the ribs done I had plenty of meat there and was still a bitch.

Jamey at Shades of Gray in Clayton has done all my work and a friend’s, so I’d recommend him. The shop owner, Tina, is also very good.

I have two tattoos on my left pec and they were not bad at all, IMO. If you get it on your pec, do NOT look down while the artist is actually tattooing. I watched someone look down briefly and the artist was not ready for that and it messed up the line he was working on. Not horrible but enough that the artist had to thicken the line to cover the mistake.

I have several friends that got some work done on their ribs. One girl and one guy said it was no big deal and another guy and girl both said it hurt like hell, so that doesn’t help lol

Earth's Edge Tattoo and Body Piercing - Winston-Salem, NC.
Amazing artists!

I've had two done. The second was a coverup, and both on my chest. Painful? No. It was more annoying waiting for it to be finished...hahaha. Take your time and find a nice clean establishment.

It hurts a little, but you will be OK. It might really grab your attention for the first 2-3 minutes or so, but you will get used to it!

It's going to hurt. You know this already. Get it put where you want it to be. Learn to meditate, and breathe.....people get multiple tattoos, me included, so it can't be that awful can it?

Get it done in sessions. My outline took about 90 minutes, the the coloring in of the flowers took 5 hours and just the other day the last of it was done in 3 hours.....and I lived! (And I have 3 more planned.)
Just go for it.... and start planning the next one! I'm sure you'll handle it just fine. Post pics!!!
