Do we have any amateur/hobbyist taxidermist here? I used to have a friend do some things for me in years past but due to health reasons, he can no longer do taxidermy. I have something small I’d like to get done that I can’t justify paying what the larger guys around here want to charge.

Location?

If you are near Wilkesboro NC, Hamby’s taxidermy is fairly priced.

I used this is it taxidermy in Siler City for the one deer I have mounted. I would go with a pro if at all possible unless you know and trust someone very well. My first bow kill was a 6 point buck in full velvet and I wanted to get it mounted. My grandpa recommended me someone that did it on the side and I still don’t have that deer five years later. She took half the money for the work up front and the deer and never mounted it. Never was able to get in touch with her after I dropped it off.

I probably have the best Taxidermist in the state right in my backyard in Justin Hinson. Before he went to MI to work for the Wildlife Gallery, he was on the NCTA board of directors (at age 28 or so...) and has
a crapton of blue ribbons from all over the East Coast where he's won competitions. Thankfully it didn't work out at TWG and now he's back to being my local taxidermist.

Look him up - Hinson's Taxidermy in Oakboro NC. He's awesome.

Thanks all for the input. I found someone about 30 mins away that seems to have good reviews and is very fairly priced. I think I’m going to try him out on this one and see how it goes.
