Teacher shoots self. Negligent discharge?

The Atlanta Urinal and Constipation? - I'd rather not subject my eyes to their BS...

The guy was shot around 7:15am before students arrived for class, thought to be alone. He was found by another side after who called 911 and administered 1st aid ... doesn't say where he was shot. Not much info to go on so far ... so I'll sit back and see what comes out. The one thing for sure is GA does not allow teachers to carry on school grounds even with CHP or such.

Maybe he subscribes to the theory that if it's concealed and you just keep your mouth shut you'll be alright....except he's not.

I honestly would have a hard time not carrying as a teacher. There is so much responsibility to protect the kids you're teaching and the school is like any other gun free zone...a massive target.

Any bets that he was about to get busted for negligently discharging something else into a student?

In my mind, which is certainly no authority on the situation, there are two possibilities.

1) He was removing the handgun from his person to store it in his desk and negligently shot himself.

2) He intentionally shot himself in an unsuccessful attempt to take his own life.

Not sure of anything else it could be.

What have you got against elves?!

Nyuck, nyuck.

Hope he makes it and tells us what happened.

When I had the offer to move to the East Coast from CA my boss said Atlatna or Raleigh? I said, hhmm, my best friend and best man from my wedding lives in Atlanta! Then I said I am going to Raleigh!

Atlanta is no bueno.

We're going to Atlanta for the weekend and I'm trying to decide on a 9mm, .40 or .45. Maybe I need to take all three.

Who in this "we're" has their CHP, just you? Everyone who can should!

Also when traveling I always have at least one extra handgun in the MiniVault w/ extra mags. I have even been known to carry an extra on my person in case I need to arm someone in my group if I need help ... some call it paranoid I call it planning ahead and believe the 7P's.

Went to the NRA convention this year and carried the whole time and a BUG too! Wife also carried with BUG! I lived in the outskirts of Atlanta in the 80's and understand.

I'm the only one holding a permit at the moment (the wife got a call that hers came in today, just not enough time to run by the Sherriffs office). I've decided on my EDC and gonna bring along my M&P and may just throw in my P3AT just in case.

Smart move. Now I am not real good with GA laws but I think has no problem with you carrying 2 firearms ... so if needed and your wife is in close proximity you got an extra just for her ;).

The wife and the kid want to hit the Coke museum and aquarium. I've never been (I try to avoid big urban cities myself), but we only need to make it til Monday then on to Savannah.

Let us know if either has metal detectors or pat downs at the entrance.
I will. The aquarium is state owned/run, so imma say that's a no go. I'll see if we can drive by the door at Coke and see what the deal is. I looked at the CC laws for both GA and SC and it reads pretty dern close to NC law.

They canceled classes?? Back in my day when a teacher shot himself we still had classes. Coddling kids these days....

How many teachers shot themselves in your day? lol I had to ask

There is no duty to inform. Also the police can not ask you if you are armed in traffic stops.

The Coke museum had metal detectors as you enter the building. I almost took my pocket knife in, but decided to leave it in the car at the last minute. Good thing! This place is crazy! Not sure I'll ever come back.

Did you get to try Beverly?

So, we made it out of atlanta! Both the aquarium and the Coke museum had metal detectors so consider this your warning. Funny though, at the Coke place I left my n82 holster on and actually set off the metal detector, but played it off as my belt buckle. My wife, on the other hand had a 4" Kershaw that she keeps in her purse with her that made it through! I guess it could come down to a knife fight if things got dicey. Now, off to Charleston (there was an active shooter situation earler on King St, which is where our reservations are) for dinner. Yay!
