There is lots of bad here, but props to the good cop for restraining the gorilla.
I watched this on the news yesterday.
What I found shocking was how the Lincoln county sheriff defend the deputy that punched the handcuffed 16 year old in the face twice.
He should be able to get plenty of mental health with all that money mom's going to get in the lawsuits.
That roid rage sheriff's deputy needs to be canned. That security guard needs to be canned.
The sheriff and the Atrium lady are clearly trying to cover themselves by not admitting wrong doing for the coming lawsuit.
That gorilla was getting ready to swing at the kid's mother. He doesn't need to be anywhere near a LEO job. He needs to be fired, in which case he'll unfortunately end up likely working private security, which is nine times out of ten the back story for the Atrium guard.
If you read most of the cop bashing threads here you would know that you must have been hallucinating when you saw the good cop step in. Cops never step in when another cop is doing wrong. It just doesn't happen. They are all bad. Didn't you know that?
Three out of four big guys in uniform are thugs.
The kid by summer time
I saw this on the news last night. Three people in that video need to be looking for work...the fourth needs to be voted out.
I don't give a damn how idiotic my son may be acting--short of about to kill someone, no one would lay a hand on him like that.
This is a clear example of how mental health is a turd that we don't understand how to pick up by the clean end.
Ya'll may not believe this but the security guards didn't even have the right to help the mother get him into the hospital.
Excuse me but three people in the video need to be charged with assault on a minor, one needs to be looking work and one voted out.
Enough wrong in that video for them to put some in the bank. I'll bet none of the idiots ever thought about video....
Indeed. Safe to assume you've got at least one camera pointed at you in most public places these days, and especially a hospital. Hell in a hospital the only place you aren't likely on camera is in the can.
Don't underestimate the enemy....
It would just be simple assault because the minor was above 12 years of age. Like JR said the guards have no right to help her. The mother should have went to the magistrate and done an IVC if she thought he was dangerous to himself or others.
The vid would have been more interesting if mom would have ventilated the bully.
Is there anything worse than an insecure bully being given a job as an authority figure?
Not trying to be some keyboard commando here but if I had been in that situation there would have been two of us handcuffed in the end. I have no delusions of being able to prevail over six armed men and I would have likely ended up beaten, tasered or shot but I couldn't stand by while that was happening to my child.
Yup. Kid was just talking smack until the guard grabbed hold of him. That was the first crime. Yes, the kid did try to punch the guard in the face, but I'd say it was justifiable. And no, the kid shouldn't have spit blood at the cop... but based on the cop's actions after, i'm guessing he was probably being a PoS from the start about it.
I mean, the cop with the shaved head who both pulled his partner off the kid AND had to physically restrain that same cop from beating the kid's mother. The other cop, meh. looks like he just restrained the kid after the spitting incident. I got no beef with that. but officer roid rage needs some serious penalties.
Yeah. I'd be in jail.
Stuff happens, what matters is how those in power react. The biggest problem here is if the cop was in the wrong and it goes to court TAX PAYERS pay for his stupidity. Departments tend to hid behind the fact that someone else pays for their mistakes.
Cops are human, if someone asshat kid spit blood at me and talked smack i might overreact too. Stuff happens. But there are repercussions right? There should be. If i was managing him i would wonder if this is a personality issue that could cost the county more money in the future.
I wonder what alternative reality Sheriff Bill Beam lives in? The officer didn't punch the kid in the face twice? The officers didn't end up on the ground?
It's not hard to see why we need body cams on all the time. There can be some dispute about whether the amount of force was justified or not - we can't hear the audio and we can't tell whether the kid was lucid, making threats, or whatever set these guys off. But the video evidence about the sequence of events is indisputable.
Move this to special access you will get to hear real nasty stuff.
Looks to me like grown men picked a fight with a child. Bullied him around, then are charging him for trying to defend himself. Right? No wonder the kid has issues.
How about going up to the kid in a calm understanding manner.. maybe even some humor? Being compassionate and showing empathy? They went in determined to show a kid how big and bad they are. I've worked around guys like that. I dont understand people. I just don't. If I would've been there by myself, I'd have had that kid smiling on the way to the phsyc ward. Be it with crude humor, or a snickers bar. Either way, it wouldn't have been a sh-t show
When you're a hammer everything is a nail. Don't use security (military, police, etc.) as a greeter.
I would be in jail if I saw that happen to ANYBODY’s kid, much less my own.
I keep seeing the kid “spit” blood...
Maybe, just maybe, the kid had blood running down his throat from Billy Bad Ass taking him down to the pavement face-first, and was coughing/hacking, trying to clear out his airway...a perfectly normal response.
I’d most likely be dead, because after fat-ass got his reward, I’d be going after Mike Tyson; first, for punching my kid and second, for “making and aggressive, threatening move” (IIRC, I think that’s the common excuse) toward the wife. I would have probably got my ass shot.
MFer needs to meet the business end of a baseball bat.
And people, like the security director and the Sheriff, need to stop making f*ing excuses for this crap and for those who do it.
You know what happens if someone does get inside without getting roughed up by rent-a-cops?
They give them a paper gown, sit them in a dark room with a sitter at the door (usually a bored CNA or someone else completely untrained to deal with them), and they're stuck there, sometimes for weeks at a time until they can be "placed" in a facility or with some sort of outpatient care or group home.
The mental health "system" is a joke.
Yall would get a solid “not guilty” from me if I were on the jury.
The teen was not violent, made no attempt to assault anyone, made no attempt to get into the family car.
Yet, they assaulted him a second time. Head of security should be out of a job as well as the guard and deputy.
Same as what I saw. Getting into the car still isn't again the law.
Not terribly proud to live a couple minutes away from this Charlie Foxtrot...
I've worked with troubled kids like this, even had one spit in my face, and had another "stab" me with a paper clip. In each instance, even someone as untrained as a lowly citizen/non-kingsman like myself was able to restrain myself from delivering a full-on haymaker to their face, and in both instances defused the confrontation without much trouble.
Kid's an asshole for spitting in somebody's face, and had I done that in front of either one of my parents, they would have beat my ass worse far worse than that deputy beat him, but neither would have tolerated that ape decking me.
Bill Beam will be another in a line of Lincoln Co Sheriffs that leaves amid scandal and controversy.
1. This is the status of our Mental Health pathways.
2. The Security Guards are Guards, because they were turned down or could not pass requirements for any Agency.
3. 2 out of 4 Cops are basically the same as the Security Guards; except they passed requirements for the Agency.
4. Atrium "Chief of Security" is a Corporate Tool. If she sleeps any at night.... I would not want to be her on Judgement Day. Yeah, if you admit fault, you will lose money; but, by coming off as callous... the jury is going to award a heckuva lot more.
5. The Cop that punched the Kid in Cuffs... and then bowed up at the Mother....Son. If you can't control yourself, go join the UFC and get that piss and vinegar out of you.
6. The Kid... Mom wanted help for her son. Mental Health concern. Not illness... EVERYONE suffers from short-term Mental Health issues at one time. So... now whatever the young man had going on could develop into a full onset complex and could become chronic. Hospital and Peace Officers who should do no harm... literally made all the wrong decisions.
7. Did you see the teeth of the kid bust out of his mouth when he hit the ground? Uh.. yeah... I would be spitting blood at anyone who had a hand in doing this to me.
Finally... Like someone said before. If this was my child... there would have been at least 2 in Handcuffs or some people would truly be in the hospital, maybe in the grave.
The interesting thing about this... is that the Sheriff's office is still pushing for Charges AGAINST the patient! (That's IIRC from last night!)
There are times when you have to go right to the mat. This was NOT AT ALL one of those times and those 4 F-Tards should know that.
Lastly.... isn't it interesting that the Least Capable people in charge of handling this episode were called on to handle it:
1. The Hospital
2. The "Security"
3. 2 out of 4 Deputies
4. AND most egregiously.... the Atrium "Chief of Security". She literally came across as COLD DEAD FROSTED BITCH.
I will say I think the security was way over the top from the video alone. Unfortunately you don't hear the audio which could change things a little. Not taking up for them just saying we have 5 sometimes 6 senses that make up the entire picture. I do not think they handled it correctly or legally.
I think this does highlight one thing most have missed in this situation and that is the mother initiated the entire ordeal. I understand she wanted "help" because she couldn't control her teenager in crisis. But were was Dad or grandpa, uncle to help. She went to and got the guard because she couldn't handle it herself. Unfortunately I have seen parents with kids as young as 7-9 try to have them committed just so an officer would deal with them not them. People don't understand life gets real quick when you have the state or outside family get involved.
Sometimes parents go this route because they're too sorry to raise the kid right in the first place. They expect everybody else to fix their kid.
So it takes 5 of these jerks to handle one scrawny 16 year old? I guess it's a good thing there weren't two scrawny 16 year olds LOL. But what's worst of all? 1) The bad behavior by LE is immediately excused or defended by the sheriff or county, 2) None of the good cops do anything (why didn't any of them immediately arrest the one who sucker punched the kid twice?) 3) Sometimes, they get quietly hired back after committing a serious crime like murder (for example, the one who shot the unarmed guy who was crawling in the hall of a hotel - that was FL I think?). The point is, there doesn't seem to be much policing from the inside, but rather just looking out for themselves.
Audio or no audio, there is no way anyone with half a brain could look at this and not see how bad this kids rights were absolutely steamrolled. So the kid spit in one of their faces? Yeah, I probably would to after being tackled twice when I wasn't looking, and when I wasn't being threatening to anyone.
Good cop should have been putting bad cop in cuffs on the spot.
Kid had to cop a Alford plea, today.
D.A wouldn't drop the charges.
Mother was pressured to take the deal or the kid was going to face felony assault charges in an adult court.
Probably the D.A trying to insulate the county against a law suit.
Also turns out the kid was drunk not mentally unstable
Good lawyers cost a lot of money, up front. Be interesting to go after the medical facility first, show any dental x ray films before and after the kid was injured.
This story is on ABC on the yahoo news main page. Hope good lawyers contact the family.
Please post links to some those videos!
