Heavy Duty Power Systems

Model # HDSMIG120HG
Mig 120 volts

I paid $360.00 for a brand new one. He said they were made in Europe. I have no idea if this was good price but the lowest price I found was a demo on Ebay for $495.00. Their website full list is $799.00.

Any experience with this bland of welder or any of their products. I almost bought a plasma cutter as well. As usual I’m tired of nobody doing what they promised they would do welding and cutting. I realize this is not 230 volts which is better and has thickness limitations. Have not found an actual Youtube review.

You can do much more than you think with a 110v mig. I use a 110 Miller and I can do anything needed for automotive work.

Is it compatible for shielding gas?

A link to mfgr would help.

Instruction manual last page duty cycle on label on front or 10min with 6 min. on and 4 min. off to cool.

I need to invest in a mig welder. I have access to an arc welder but it's bigger than I need for the small projects i need it for.

You need 75 %argon 25% co2 gas. Then you will need a regulator and a hose to connect it For general welding I use .030 wire. Mig wire made for use with gas

Now for the welder. In the manual. It says 230v It also says to turn the regulator 1 full turn then back 1/2 turn WTF kind of instructions is that 15 to cu ft per hour Is the correct flow.

That's essentially the Campbell hausfeld welder from walmart

Not to ruin things for you. But you would be better off with a harbor freight welder. At least it would be cheaper for the same welder

If you want to get reacquainted with welding. Come on down to denver and weld all you want

Any idea the wire and gas. I haven’t welded for 25 years.
Look at the tip in the handle and inside the box where the wire goes and see what it tells you about wire size and type.

If you are welding outdoors better off with MIG flux cored process, like stick welding but the flux in on the inside of the wire core,
vs stick the flux is coated on the exterior of the electrode.

I've been welding for the better part of 30 years and I'd rather stick weld with a piece of coat hanger than weld with flux wire. That's just me. I absolutely hate the stuff.

I just crank the gas up and if I can build some sort of windbreak.

But I despise flux wire. Dont get me wrong. It has its place

Better yet Bring your welder down and we will hook it to my bottle and see how it does for you before you invest 250 in a bottle and another 100 for a regulator

Well a long time ago you could weld with a coat hanger. Fixed a number of mufflers on equipment with one. Now adays the coat hangers just sort of evaporate.

I used to be involved in the Pipe and fitting industry and had access to a lot of really good welders. All told me that a flux core wire welder would do the job but they hated them and if I did get one get use to a lot of splatter. Everyone of them told me for household type jobs with a 110 volt job, get a stick welder and for beginners don't buy the cheapest rods. There are rods out there that cost a little more, but are more forgiving and keep the rods DRY.

Can some recommend a welding helmet for an occasional welder?
Just to get started The autodarkening from harbor freight is hard to beat. I have that one and one other $300 hood and use the harbor freight one probably more as I dont care if it gets torn up.

If this is the right one, here’s a coupon that makes it $1 cheaper than the normal price - 20%. :D

They also have a blue one and a red one for a little more $$.

Here’s the blue one:

No coupon I found on the red, but you ought to be able to use the 20% off that are common.

If you do not like the flames on the harbor freight ones or not your style they peel off pretty easily if you do it when you first get it or last one I had did since it happened to be one on sale when I needed one. They work well for price but will die after several years but at the price you can buy several replacements for what the others cost.
