Tell Me About Your First Match

Cool to see so many CSOS people here! I need to get out and join you guys more often. I met a few of the 'regulars' but I can't place names and faces with screen IDs here very well.

The Statesville USPSA match was the first handgun competition I ever entered. To be completely honest I don't remember the specifics of that match, it was about 5 years ago and I can't hardly remember yesterday

I do know that I was welcomed as a complete novice and enjoyed it enough to go back again. Being able to shoot so many shots in varied positions was one of the main draws for me. Even though I don't shoot good enough for bragging rights, I appreciate having a score to measure my performance.

Since then my first 3-gun was at Duncan's outdoor range in North Wilkesboro in April 2013. Once again my memory fails me since I can't remember group's name I visited with but I do fondly recall the event. I shot OK-ish, but was thrilled to get to transition from one gun to another so even if I had missed every target it was just fun making noise. The camaraderie was phenomenal though, everyone was very nice, helpful, and patient with me. They served me an unexpected lunch after the event, and did a little celebratory roll call as they read off top scorers in each division. I was the only person there that shot with irons on the rifle so I won my division :)

Then perhaps my favorite yet was the first(and so far only) run and gun / handgun and carbine match I did in April of this year at Carolina Guns & Gear. I enjoyed the extra physicality aspect of so much dynamic movement. We got to shoot out to 300 yards, run a long stage through their 270° 'bowl' complete with a pistol jog through a wooded hallway, and then a couple CQB stages. Everyone was cool here too, but it was definitely a more advanced type of event so people were more concerned with their own game than anything else. I appreciated the challenge and have made changes to my training and equipment accordingly so I can do better the next time I get to do one of these type of matches.

Most recently I shot a round of sporting clays for the first time in the group Bailey Boat put together a couple weeks back. I didn't even have the right gun for the game, but had a good time anyway thanks to the people I got to shoot with and another type of firearm sport I think I've quickly become addicted to.

It's all fun, my biggest problem is that I don't have enough time to do it all! For those of you that are still on the fence... get out there and do it! Be safe and don't expect too much of yourself, especially the first few times, and you'll have a great time!
Glad you found us man. I'm incognito right now but you remember me from the shoot we had up at Sneakymedics place.

I'm pretty sure I remember you. If I'm correct I spoke to you at the GRNC booth in Hickory a while back too. Right or wrong?

The get together Sneakymedic place was probably the best casual get together of friends and shooters I have ever got to experience. Speaking of, he said he and Mary hoped to do more but I'm still waiting! Did I miss something?

Sneakymedic - I mentioned you above but the AI didn't call you out so I had to make sure I did! Hope things are good your way.

Those of you that don't know this guy opened up his farm to a bunch of us hooligans to stop by, have some good eats, and make all kinds of noise one Monday afternoon a few years back. Simply put - you missed out if you didn't make it!

Once again my memory fails to remember his name, but a member was about to be deployed so the whole reason the event was planned as a type of friendly send off for him. Somebody please help me remember that guy's name!

edit:

AI did work, but user goofed typing the name

Anyway, this post stays :p

I think I did run into you at the Hickory show. Big guy, looks like if he fell down he'd still be the same height, cool toys, shoots a 1022 at 200 yds with glee. Does that sound like me? Goes by Joe in the real world, not to be confused with that other Joe that goes by MuzzerFuzzer

1st match had to be 9-10 years ago. GSSF Match somewhere... I can't remember which one. I shot a bunch of them back then before I found IDPA and other matches I liked better. Met Tarowah there. That was before I was on CSF even...

I think I still have video of the day, I'll have to take a look and see.

I really need to head out your way and shoot with you again man, it has been far too long since we had the chance to burn some powder!!

I have to agree to something...stand back...yeh I know.... but every once in a while I do that. That get-together Sneakymedic Headquarters was, in fact the best bean eatin contest I ever had the privilege to attend. Pink showed off his baking talents, and some really fine hardware. Shooter showed off his bloody shirt, and some nice stuff, other Joe showed us all how to shoot, well he and Gwenda ( Eddie's wife) That girl is deadly with any handgun she touches, and she isn't afraid to suffer a shrapnel wound while shootin either. Mushu's honey showed us how to sell ammo and, ammo boxes in a way that made me sigh ( Thank You God for the gusts of wind that day. Amen ) That's only a few things that I remember but the most outstanding thing about that experience is exactly why we're here in CFF now. Funny how some people or person who was there, just didn't get it.

The person that was there yet didn't understand it didn't even shoot. He snapped pics and pushed some swag while there, both of which were designed to profit off of a friendly gathering. Seems small and insignificant at one little event, but when you have the insight we do now it is obvious he was using many happy volunteers as his own personal cash cow.
