After the last week I figured I'd make myself a little nook here to keep this stuff in. Welcome to the camping section!

I finally got the wife into camping again, It's been a long while since she enjoyed going out and camping in a tent just for fun. She's starting to want to go again...

That being said this is what she picked out as her "tent" for her to go with us. Needless to say it's car camping only, because I for sure ain't packing that thing very far from the truck.

Here's the REI Kingdom 6 "beast" setup up in what used to be our living room (yes, this is just for the TWO of us - I know crazy...)

That's a nice tent. Plenty of room for 2. Is it tough to set up?

Actually it's quite easy 3 poles and then the garage. It is massive, especially with the "garage" attached. It was great to have though since it rained like a mo-fo after that beautiful first day.

Plenty of room for hanging out and playing cards for 6 adults without having to open up the "bedroom".

Word of advice... Anyone looking to get this tent can save +/-50% by grabbing one at an REI garage sale (where they sell all of their returns). Next one is Dec 31st. People seemingly buy and return these tent often.

+1

My ABSOLUTE favorite time to go to rei. Lol

I didn't take many pictures of my last camping trip. Rode down to Givhans Ferry State Park near Charleston in early Nov. for a 2 night trip.
Here's my tent set up in the house.

Bought it just for this trip since the elastic cord in my old tent poles had all dry rotted.

All packed up and ready to ride:

Wolfman Bag also brand new.

Ultimately had a great time but this pretty much sums up motorcycle camping:

Haha same goes for lightweight backpacking.

Lightweight backpacking costs a dang fortune.

gonna start another thread altogether for that little ball of wax. I'll tie it into the Wilson Creek trip thread when I get home.

I bought the exact tent BOG posted at the last garage sale for $75

I went camping last night. My brother, his boy, my stepson, and I. I sleep in a hammock, haven't used a tent in a long time. Looks nice, dog seems to enjoy it.

After seeing your tent I like your wife's style. Never know when you might be holed up in the tent for too many hours. Might as well make it spacious. Might want to invite friends for a card game or something.

Ha! Didn't even see this before my previous comment. Always knew I was genius even if nobody else does.

I have 2 tents to suit variable conditions... My Mountain Hardware 4 season rolls with me everywhere. My 8 man Ozark Trail from Wally World covers the summertime trips with the kids when I know weather will cooperate for the most part. That tent is spacious, but won't hold up to anything more than a passing summer storm.

That 4 season can handle anything Mother b Nature throws at me!

My wife won't sleep in a tent so I had to go a little bigger. We have been all over the place with this. My girls including the wife really love it. I was a previous tent camper myself and would like to do some more of that.

I've researched gear for about 2yr trying to find quality, lightweight, inexpensive items. It's still not cheap by any means but it's doable without going broke. I'll keep an eye out for that thread.

That's big enough to park your Prius in. Nice tent.

I am thinking about going this route for my next tent purchase:

We had a pair of Hammock campers on the site next to us last month. The thing I noticed was all my stuff except boots was in the tent with me. I woke up a couple of times and wanted something out of my gear. It was all there in easy reach, if I was in a hammock I would have had to unzip it and get up. I bought the kids eno double nests for Christmas so maybe I'll change my mind but right now I'm sticking with my tent.

Good point. Definitely takes some planning and experience.

For those looking to get into tent camping and plan on "car camping" be sure and check out the Kodiak Canvas line of tents. Awesome tents, bullet proof, water tight, handles high winds and light snow loads, easy to put up, etc, etc.

Good video to show their ability.

Man, those are nice, but just the single person tent weighs in at 17.5lbs! http://www.kodiakcanvas.com/swag-1-person-canvas-tent/
Tent looks sweet though!

Thats why I made a point in my post to say car camping is what these are going to be used for. They are very nice tents and really hard to beat for the money. Research Youtube at how easy they are to put up and take down.

Yep.. the one I like is a 3 person. Would have to do some figuring on how to keep my gear close if there was 3 in the tent. I believe this one has accessories that allow you to basically build a tent underneath.

This is something I am looking to get back into this year. Once my wife's health is better, she wants to get into hiking and camping with me.

ive got a couple tents, my 2 man small tent is my favorite. Light weight and sets up in a min. But not good for cold night camping.

I need to start getting a list together and see what all I need.

Tell you what, the older I get the more I appreciate a tent I can stand up in.

#1 on the Kodiak Canvas, but those things weigh a ton. Just be sure it is completely dry before putting it up, too, or the canvas will mildew.

I have a small bag that hangs from my hammock ridgeline. I put my small stuff there. Water bottle gets clipped on. Glassed get hung there. Flashlight gets clipped to it. And I have a nylon holster where my gun goes. There is nothing else I need until the morning.

Our several year old Coleman tent went in the trash last fall when it started leaking. Kicking myself for not ordering one Cabela's had on sale. Next time we go I'm going to need to buy another tent. Biggest factor for us is it has to fit on a park service tent pad. A lot of them in the size range we want are just a touch too big. Got to fit wife, 2 girls, and all our clothes for the week in it. That's a long way from the 10x12 tarp I slept under for years.

You lucky dog!

That's about half the size of the monstrosity my wife bought a few years back to support family camping for Scouting activities.

It can take a Queen sized, double thickness air mattress...ON ONE SIDE OF THE FRICKIN' TENT! I can hang the battery powered lantern in the center of the tent and not hit my head on it when I walk under it.

What a pain it was to set up and break down all that mess.

I probably have a dozen smaller tents that we use for kayak camping, but our big one is a Coleman Exponent. I love it for Ham Radio DXpeditions! It has small zippered flaps for power cord entry into the tent, two rooms, and plenty tall enough to stand up in. It's also VERY stable and dry in the wind/rain.

Very nice. I need to get out and camp more. I haven't been in quite some time. I still use the same Coleman 4 person tent I have had for about 15 years. That little tent survived a tropical storm since none of us looked at the weather before the weekend. My girlfriend at the time wasn't too fond of that trip, although it did mean more time inside.

Nice tent.
When we used to go camping we had a huge 10'x20' cabin tent. It was awesome. And if there were trees, we'd string up a 40 tarp over it for extra rain protection. Came in handy one year when it rained almost every day. We had a dry covered are outside tent.
Now we just do cabin 'camping.'

Headed to Santee next week for some friends and mine annual January camping trip, been doing it for probably 15 years now. We pack the boats up, head up river and camp on the bank for a few days. Ill take some pictures of our gypsy camp and post them.

About the same for me as CheifJason. I can hang some stuff inside, some outside, and the main bag usually rests underneath me.

Next moto camping trip has been scheduled. Going to Dreher Island in April. I made a list after the last trip of things I wish I had taken. Top of that is a chair. Probably going to buy a small REI chair. Kermit chairs are popular with the big bike guys but too heavy for me. Any other light small chairs you've had success with? My max width packed on the bike is 24" and I prefer to be 18" which is turn signal width.

Alite mayfly - there'sa picture in the hammock thread where I had my minimalist pack.

rei flex lite - not good in sand or wet soft ground

those are my 2 favorites
