I am meeting a dude in the morning to buy his PEQ-15 that he assures me is a legit L3 manufactured device.

How do I tell for sure that I'm not getting an airsoft knock off or other fake? My plan is to bring along a heavy blanket and NV monocular. Throw the blanket over my head and crank up the illuminator and IR laser.

I have zero experience with this stuff. Is the above anywhere close to a legit test given that I'm meeting in a parking in broad daylight?

Any advice that doesn't include wait til dark to buy it?

If it's stolen .gov property, that's another issue.

I don't have any experience with that item, but I'd be a little concerned about having the IR illuminator or laser reflecting off something so close back into the sensor. Could you at least try it in a darkened bathroom, etc?
