The DOD on militarization of police...

"You want a clear definition between that which is military and that which is police, in my view," Milley said during a congressional hearing on July 9. "Because when you start introducing the military, you're talking about a different level of effort there."

This statement from Milley is spot on...BUT, leo's wearing military garb, both at the federal and local level goes back 30+ years, it is not new and is seen all the time. Did Esper just take his head out of the sand? Does he not realize he himself has enabled the militarization of law enforcement, he is after all the SecDef.

So, lets wait for it...Esper will come out wanting to forbid the sale of multicam patterned clothing and equipment except for official military sales & use, or some such BS. Different LEO elements, local and federal, come through Bragg all the time to train at Range 37 (SOF) and use our MOUT training facilities, all kitted out with the latest garb & gear.
When you are kitted out and train like BORTAC does, you have moved well beyond "law enforcement".
For comparison...below is photo of Portland Police and the two photos below that is of BORTAC, both in Portland (note the Portland PD in the background) and during a training op flying seats out in a UH60 looking more like a squad of Rangers (from which they actively recruit) than "police".

We've seen the natural progression of this since SWAT was invented by the LAPD in 1967. There is absolutely a need for SWAT, BUT there is NOT a need to turn every patrol officer into SWAT-lite 24/7. I also think there is not a need to have every piece of military gear and uniform, just because it's available, which really took off after 9/11 when the money flowed like milk and honey....

I have not worked/trained with BORTAC, but I have with BORSTAR and HRT, and those guys are off the chains with their egos and self-proclamations of expertise. What's funny is, listen to what the comparable .mil groups say about them behind their backs, and you can see what people really think.

Regarding Esper, Milley, et al., I think they see the videos and pictures and want to ensure they are on the right side of this (rightfully).

The Boogaloo Movement... :D

The optics they're concerned with is being able to clearly identify their targets.

I've laughed about this before, everyone showing up in the same gear, because Blackhawk had a sale, makes engagements umm... interesting. And everyone laughs at the boogalooers and their Hawaiian shirts, until you think about it. ;)

Tartans! We should all have our own identifying tartans!

We used to have Hawaiian shirt Fridays during the summer months at work...now we refer to it a Boogaloo Friday's.

Will this hat be ok as not to trigger the rioters?

Brooks Bros Pink Polo and Dockers Chinos for the win

CBP better have camouflage because they are in theory protecting us from invading freeloaders from other countries and drug Cartels.

The colors of the uniforms don't really matter that much to me. The military has a much different purpose than LEO.

I'd love to see them in different uniforms. Hawaiian shirts, Don Johnson outfits, Pink Polos and Kahkis, CHIPs style uniforms. Hell. Dress up like the Village People

in a tongue-in-cheek clumsy-nod to woke sensitivity. Make fun of the whiners. That's what it would be if I was Supreme Commander. They spend money on dumber stuff.
