Holy crap that is a great deal! Thank you for the link; I will bookmark it.

I forgot to mention one other requirement: it has to be a 29er.

edit - this one has potential, although the rear travel is a little short.

Do you guys have any good frame recommendations? I do not have confidence that, after spending hundreds on labor and shipping both ways, 1) BD will fix the HAL right and 2) something else won't break and start the whole crappy process over. The HAL was $1860 (after a $140 discount) and retail price on the components is a little over $2000, so it's no great loss to toss the Motobecane frame.

The ideal frame would have the following traits:
  • From a reputable mfgr that has good warranty and support
  • Less than $3000, and the lesser the better
  • Carbon or alloy
  • 29er
  • Tapered headtube
  • Rear suspension travel suitable for a 150mm Pike up front
  • 190x51 rear shock length
  • Boost spacing
A GG frame would be an obvious choice, but I'd have to 1) buy a new shock and 2) have the rear rim offset 3mm. Add in those two expenses and it's just an average deal and not a great deal.

Are you looking for another bike or just frame?

Just a frame. The Motobecane has less than 200 miles on it and great components. I'm going to strip it and use the parts to build a new bike.

Check out PinkBike also, lots of good stuff on there for sale

What size frame are you looking for?

Short travel in the rear? Where do you plan on riding this thing? Whistler A line or Dirt merchant?

Went to Beech today. Absolutely had a great freakin time. Down hill parks are awesome. Only one minor get off. Need more pics next time I go in two weeks.

77 degrees, light breeze, 17 miles worth of fast downhill

Did they make any new trails or the same bunch as last year? What sort of restrictions did they have in placef the lift?

I'm thinking about heading up there this weekend.

Only trail changes I see was the Cane break jump line.

As far as lift lines, not much at all except for breaking it up in two sections till the crowds die down. We still got 10 lifts Sunday starting at 10:30 and left at 5 with stopping for lunch

Cool. Thanks. Cane Brake was new mid season last year. Requires much speed.

Snowshoe is scheduled to open July 2nd.

Wasn’t what I was originally after. But I couldn’t let this deal go. 2019, new old stock, Santa Cruz Chameleon, S+ build. Convertible to a single speed, can extend the rear(chainstays) from 425 to 455 mm rear thru different end pieces. 29 inch wheel compatible. Fox 34 performance fork

You can't say "BOOM" at the end of a downhill story unless that's the sound you heard when you hit the dirt;)

Rode Academy on Monday for the first time. Academy is a steaming pile of horse**** that should be set on fire, pissed all over, and then bulldozed so that someone who is not a completely inept monkey can design a new trail that is more than than just a bunch of haphazard lines drawn on a map. But, that's just my opinion.

Riding Mazeppa on Tuesday restored balance to The Force.

Dang... and here I thought Academy was one of the better trails out there. Less traffic, more technical, decent flow. But then again I am one of the weird ones who like East Main and Goat. But those resemble Poston which I ride at least once a week if not twice for exercise.

I thought Academy had the opposite of flow. Like, anti-flow. Every time you'd start to get a rythm going it would do it's best to break it. Maybe some day I'll grow to appreciate it's finer points, as you have.

On another note...

$2400 with a Fox DPX2 Performance Elite. Transition dealer says that since my Pike has a bit more offset and a bit less travel than Transition specs, the first time I ride the bike it will probably explode and I will die in a fiery crash.

Exploding bikes and fiery crashes sound fun, so I'm in.

Now I gotta figure out the final fate of the Motobecane frame. I wonder how flammable aluminum is? :D

Gosh, I actually like Academy. It’s more challenging than some others but is nowhere near East Main. There are some spots that can catch you off guard, some tight turns and quick little climbs but I like it. I would love to see East Main bulldozed and rebuilt. I refuse to ride that one.

Seems like most everybody is in the Charlotte area. Anybody in the Greensboro, Winston, High Point area?

I'll have to try Academy again. Maybe my first impression was off-base. It probably didn't help that it was 187 degrees out.

I’m following along because I started riding for cardio at the end of last year. Mainly rails to trails flats and some hilly single track at the house. I have a Specialized Crosstrail at the moment and was thinking about getting something more suited to off the manicured path riding. I have to say, I’m impressed with the sticker price on some of your rides.

You thought shooting was an expensive hobby? Well it is. But so are bicycles, MTB or road, spending Nighthawk money on a bike isn’t uncommon. You can get out on the trails for $500-$10k, whatever floats your boat.

I'd bet most of us didn't start out here. Like any hobby, it's a downward spiral. ;) My first mountain bike was a $338 hardtail.

Everything sucked yesterday. That heat was horrible. I did a shakedown ride on Panda, Bandit, Smokey, Rail and Prairie, 10 miles, none of which was nice. You breath the fumes from the oak trees sweating :(

Curious, how many of you use clip in pedals on the trails? I get it when on a road but with uneven terrain I would think it would be somewhat dangerous.
IIRC I’m the only one out of those who attended the group rides over the past year. It definitely takes some getting used to and you’ll fall a couple times, but after that it’s pretty nice not having to worry about your feet slipping off on really rough stuff and it’s a little more efficient. I’m not a powerhouse pedaler so I can use all the extra efficiency I can get haha.

I go back and forth. IMO clipless is better for climbing and rough technical terrain. No problems clipping out if I need to put a foot down. Really let’s you concentrate on just riding.

Good flats and shoes are nearly as good, but require more concentration when climbing and if you don’t use good technique can get feet bounced off over rough stuff.

But flats will force you to use proper technique to move the rear of the bike around so it’s good to us both to help those skills.

Don't feel too bad. I got absolutely dumped on starting 3/4 of the way up the climb to Cove Creek and it kept on until about halfway down the trail. Still hit the little rock drop at the top of the trail. Priorities and all.

That Chameleon looks nice. I'm curious to hear your impressions.

Has anyone ever used anything like a Garmin Edge when exploring new trails? If so, what is your opinion?

Nope, just my phone for mapmyride but didn’t use it very long. Despite having a very analytical job, I never got into tracking/analyzing my rides, it’s just for fun.

I use an edge for rode riding but always just use my phone with Strava turned on for trails. Am sure edge would work it’s just cause I don’t have a mount for MTN bike.

Went to Dupont to day with the hardtail. Have a newfound love for Dupont. That place is freakin awesome without a rear shock. The lower half of TurkeyKnob trail is probably the best out there. Grassy creek is next then get to finish up on Ridgeline.

Have never seen Lake Imaging parking lot crazy crowded before, and before 10am
