The "Fire-Bowl" thread

How heavy are they? I was just gonna turn it upside down for rain, lol.

Probably a bad idea...

Probably should’ve posted in this thread a couple weeks ago. I had a fellow CFF member give me one of the fire bowls recently. Just had to swing by and pick it up. One of the handles was broken off, and one of the legs was on the verge of coming off...of course we managed to snap that one off during loading and transport. Not sure what size it’s called, but it’s 42” diameter.

@LeeMajors to the rescue

So far it’s just been used for debris removal.

guess I need to grab a cooking grate at some point...

That’ll depend on which size...but mine is much heavier than I’d expected.

I probably missed the boat again but anyone / everyone making deliveries to [hopefully] the Statesville area let me know. Wife commanded me to get a large and a cooking grate after I sent her this thread.

Thanks!

(already messaged one person, just trying to stay on top of things)

...and I would totally do a big discount on that coach gun im selling if the delivery person wanted it too.

They aren’t that bad. @Chdamn took me to get mine as he has a truck with a lift gate. Once we got it home though we realized he and I could’ve probably tossed it in the back of a regular truck. And if I have to move mine by myself, I turn it on it’s side and roll it.

I used a hand truck to stand my medium sized one up on it’s side and move as necessary. I’d drill three to four 1/2" -5/8" holes in the bottom before turning it over every time it rains. This was mine in the wild at @thrillhill ’s place of commerce right before I took custody of it.

It's heavy enough that you'll want to put bricks or pavers under the legs. It's not too heavy to turn it over but why bother? I prop my chairs on it and cover them up with an old grill cover.

Okay I like that feller's plywood idea...

Had mine for about 12 years.

I drilled 3 or 4 holes about 3/8 inch in the bottom.

I never cover mine except when I know snow is coming and go ahead and build a good fire but don't light it. Then I cover it with a little $5 dollar swimming pool from Walmart that we have on hand for raising baby ducks. Then in the morning I flip it off and light it.

Yup. You missed it. I actually could have gotten 2 more

Ugh, I'm cursed. I thought you said 'trailer full' and the other guy isn't going now, I don't think.

If anybody from the Charlotte area is going to go grab one, let me know. I’d be interested in a cooking grate.

Or if there’s an easy solution I can pick up somewhere local, let me know. I’m sure I can get somebody local to weld if needed. :D

Good luck. Only 1 left today

And this is a good time to post some appreciation for two awesome forum members......... @LeeMajors and @thrillhill
And @Burt Gummer made a standing offer to help me out with transport which was greatly appreciated too ! I was very fortunate to make a short visit to the Casa Thrillhill and enjoy one more piece of heaven on earth with some wonderful humans.

Because of the kindness of these gentlemen there will be an inaugural firebowl lighting very soon in lower southeastern NC. You guys really know how to treat a senior adult. lol

I'll post pics at a later time.

Thanks guys...........thanks a lot.

I am probably going to Mr. Thurman‘s on Sunday afternoon to check out some firebowls for a family from church and maybe my father-in-law. If any members need anything picked up, let me know. I can get it to RTP/Cary/Apex, Kernersville/Stokesdale, or places in between.
He said he has large and medium in stock, and some smalls that have holes in the bottom (won’t know what that means until I see them). Not sure about cooking grates, but I’m going to look when I’m there.

Couple months ago @thrillhill brought me a cooking grate for my bowl from the gentleman that makes these fire bowls. I gave it a squirt of some cooking spray this evening after I had some coals going and threw on some teres major. That’s a shoulder cut of beef that most folks have never heard of but very good and could pass as tenderloin. Cooked over oak. Man these things were delicious.

Awesome looking piece of beef there and I'm still waiting to cook on my new grate. I've roasted some oysters on it so far but no beef yet........... I can't believe I just typed that.

I’d say one of us needs to bend you over somebody's knee for posting that, but the only one of us big enough to do that was on a rant in another thread and might be homicidal by now.

I’ve never seen this cut before. Mind sharing where you pick them up. Looks delicious.

I was lucky enough to get some from a food delivery truck that happened to have them. Butcher shops sometimes have them.

When I picked up one for me and a couple for others he didn't have many left then. Not for sure but he's probably sold out
Wow just saw this. I need one. Anyone no about a large or anyone from Charlotte want to make a trip with me to grab a couple?
