It does, and I'm not sure I'll miss the "regular" show. The car reviews grew stale before The Grand Tour even started, the star segments were rarely great, and the challenges (possibly the best part of the show in the early days) have gone from hilarious to just absurd.

The trips have been the best part of the show for a while now.

edit - I'm talking about from the start of Top Gear season 1, not The Grand Tour season 1.

Yep, I have a feeling this one will get devoured way too quickly. Then I'll have to find something else to watch, like maybe Justified for the 87th time.

Too much "appointment TV" for me growing up I guess - we watch an episode a week, usually same show on the same night :)

But it sometimes takes a good bit of discipline to not run the next episode when you get a good cliffhanger!

I've always been a big SF fan - one thing I love about The Expanse is the attention they give to the actual science, things like gravity, coriolis force, acceleration, etc.
 
Both shows are live.

Watching the first episode of The Expanse quickly reminded me that YOU HAVE TO TURN ON SUBTITILES WHEN WATCHING THE EXPANSE.

The first half-hour of The Grand Tour was classic Top Gear.

I hesitate to say 'good,' if Im being honest.
It wasnt bad, but I wont watch it again.
 
I thought it was definitely good, but agree it was not great. Their first Vietnam special is an example of "great".

It does seem like in the old days, their trips were telling a story. Now the trips are just a bunch of well-scripted bumbling mistakes strung together for an hour or two. It's still fun, but it's not as epic as it used to be.
 
Yeah, the moped one was awesome.
This one just lacked the fun, lacked the chemistry between the guys. Hell, May seemed barely in it. And only had a few parts where he was interacting with the other two, and it was brief.
There wasnt the pranks like usual, either

Season 4 of The Expanse was unsatisfying. Don't get me wrong, it was good. Maybe even very good. It's just that at the end we were ... unsatisfied. Don't know if it's that it was too short or maybe that not much really happened. It felt like a season of The Expanse Lite.

On the other side, I'm half-way through the first book and man is it great so far.
