Something about this little pepper-shaker intrigues me. So I finally got to handle one the other day.
Super light, I like that part. Don't know about that bird-grip though. I didn't cycle it or anything but it seems built well enough for the job.
Right next to it was a little 16" model 500 in .410 with the pistol grip. That one did 'feel' better but it didn't capture me like the shockwave.
What is it about this stupid little gun that makes me want one?

dunno but I'm really sweating the 20ga that PSA has for $279 shipped. 20ga ammo is nearly everywhere and much much more affordable than .410.

There's only one .410 in my house, belongs to my youngest and it's a single shot so a box of ammo keeps him busy for a while.

I keep hoping PSA puts out the 410 for that. The shop I was in wanted 400 some dollars for one.
Oddly, I have zero attraction to the 20 or the 12.
I have two Mossy 500's in 410, old 26" model and a newer 28". And a Judge. The old Mossy is a favorite when we have a shotgun day. We're gonna have one over Thanksgiving weekend so I went to Wal Mart to get some 410 shells. I wince every time I have to do this...$11.95 a box o_O and that's the cheap winchester stuff.

I might be interested in a .410 shockwave that could fire 45 colt. (Smoothbore)
Wouldn’t they have to rifle it to avoid if falling under NFA, which would then put it under the NFA? Guess I’m saying that I don’t think it’s possible.

What would you do with 45 colt in a smooth bore that you couldn’t do with a slug?

I think the 410 Judge revolvers will shoot 45 colt.
I can reload 45 colt, cant load 410 slugs.

The 20ga makes sense for recoil reasons, the 410 is a bridge too far unless it's for a kid or small woman. It also looks funny...

I've got a 12 gauge. It is surprisingly easy to handle. I also got a LaserSaddle for it from Crimson Trace. I highly recommend it. Unless of course you're a shotgun..er oops... 12/20 gauge or .410 "firearm" pro used to handling one without a buttstock.

You can reload .410 by hand without a press, I do it with round balls. There are several sources for brass shells, Magtech being one. But not suitable for a pump gun - or any gun that holds the shells in a longitudinal direction - the recoil would probably unseat the overshot card. I use mine in a single shot gun.

Yes, and there are contender barrels that shoot both, but in all cases those barrels are rifled, not smooth. Not sure why it matters, but I think it does.

We had a total of 6 Shockwaves come through here. 5 12s and 1 20. Only the 20 remains. None of us could ever come close to the Clint Smith video on YT.

Because a pistol that has a smooth bore, designed or redesigned to fire a shotgun shell falls under the NFA as an AOW and requires a tax stamp from the ATF. The definition of AOW references weapons made from rifles, shotguns, or pistols and specifically pistols with smooth bores.

Going further, in the case of the Shockwave, I dont think it matters whether the barrel is rifled or not.
The legal definition of both shotgun and rifle include the phrase "designed to be fired from the shoulder" and the legal definition of a pistol includes the phrase "designed to be fired with one hand."
The Shockwave is neither of those whether its bore is rifled or not.

I'm not a lawyer.
Not even an expert.
All I did was look up the legal definitions.
DO NOT take that as gospel but it SEEMS correct under crrent ststutes.

I really thought pistol grip shotguns were an awesome idea for home defense......until I bought one and shot it.

I quickly realized its about the dumbest idea in the world. And I practiced with mine a lot to try and develop the muscle memory required for follow up shots.

I sold the one I had to someone else who thought pistol grip shotguns would be awesome for home defense.

I think the "firearms" are good for their intended purpose, concealability. One thing I did to my Tac 14 was change the barrel to a vent rib model cut to the same length as the original so I could add a Meprolight (night sight) front sight. The Magpul forend with the M loc system was perfect for a short piece of rail and then add a TLR 2 light with green laser. Even my wife can shoot it like a pro using the laser and since it's green it's visible even in daylight and scary as hell at night....
